So rare even the police have one. Surprised they haven't got a m6 too.

Absolutely disgusting waste of money.
They could have bought something nearly as fast and used the leftover to employ another policeman. But it's the public sector and remember that the dwindling numbers of Police is all down to those savage Tory cuts. |

Sweet looking police car. If I got pulled over with that, maybe I could somehow talk my way out of it!
What country is that in? |

It could be ione of their PR cars. They go to motoring events and try and persuade motorists they are human. I've seen them at the Autosport International at the NEC a couple of years now.

Hopefully BMW have given it to them as part of some publicity stunt or something, maybe with the help of channel 5 given it has "interceptor" plastered all over it.
I doubt plod have paid £50k+ for an M2. (And it does look cool ) |

The M2 is a promo car:
BMW UK cars all seem to have 'YE, YA' 'plates; The police wouldn't have a launch colour turquoise; Interceptors are actually 'a thing' though.... makes me laugh...

I am fairly certain it is a promo car - went through the Channel Tunnel last week and there was a crew from EVO mag with the same car! Will check the pics i took tonight but pretty sure the number plate is the same (well the ODK bit)!!
It was lovely and they seemed to rate it pretty highly! |

I hear you point of view teaston about taxpayers funding BMW's. In terms of whole of life overall running costs, BMW is one of if not the cheapest manufacturers for police forces. + their product line up is superior to most others.

I'll guarantee its been stickered up as a promotional tool. They take them to cruises and other places the yoofs gather. Good promotion for BMW as it gets them talking about the car and it helps break down barriers with the yoofs and shows that coppers can be car nuts as well. I doubt very much if it has cost the good British public a penny. |

Would a 335xd Touring not be the perfect cop car? Spacious, surefooted and obscenely fast even in the wet - no crims escaping that one

I would be fairly sure that BMW provide a fair number of their cars FoC for the publicity it generates.. though I doubt you would see Jaguar police cars in Germany !

It's also about fleet management and spares management. A 330d likely comes in at £25k (or less). They are also very reliable in comparrison to other makes. Most of the new 330d's used by CPMG are xdrive variety. In regards to the M2 etc, a number of Police shows going on at moment and over the summer, there is even a 3 wheeler Morgan Bang for buck, an F31 330d xdrive beats majority of cars that could be used for Motorway duties. |

The fact that its unit number (on the roof) is "M2" and that there is no constabulary badge or operating unit kind of gives the game away that it's a BMW-owned car.
Still, the "savage Tory cuts" comment from the Socialist Worker lifted my day a bit.
