Tank Ventilation Valve Replacement

So... a few months ago, I noticed that whenever I filled my tank, immediately after, I would get a couple of RPM "dips" at idle and then it would be fine. I assumed (correctly) that the fuel system was just trying to re-equalize itself. Then, a month ago, I noticed that I was losing throttle response and mileage was getting worse. A week after that, I got a yellow CEL. I looked on the onboard computer but nothing was there. So I used my Pro Tools scanner and got two codes, both indicating a fuel pressure malfunction. Off to BMW it goes (still under warranty).

Friday afternoon, I get there to drop it off at BMW (and pick up my loaner) and show them the codes and explain the problem. 20 mins later on my way home, I get a message that they found the problem: a faulty Tank Ventilation Valve. Great!!

But... they can't do anything without BMW's approval. BMW needs to see the issue and determine for themselves that it's actually faulty. Isn't that what you just did? And how could it NOT be faulty? Is this something that I actually have the ability to screw up/damage? I'm really confused. And to top it off, it's now Tuesday evening and they are STILL waiting for BMW to approve this.

Sorry for spouting off, but I'm just really confused how this would not be an automatic warranty replacement. Even the SA has said that he's sure it will be replaced under warranty.

Loaners are a blessing and a curse lol, they don't feel rushed to finish the car because they know you have theirs.

This is true. Just irritating when I know it will take them eight mins to replace the part but eight days for someone to approve it...

Just wanted to say I appreciate your post as it confirmed my theories about the weird RPM fluctuation after topping off as well. Worried me the first time i felt it but after I realized it was only for the first 2/3 minutes after I refilled I figured it was a calibration or something along those lines. But it always feel good to hear someone say "my car does that too" lol

Finally got my car back yesterday after a week at the dealership. They called me Wed to let me know that BMW had "approved" their finding and that they were now ordering the part. Friday morning I got the call that it was done.

So I drove it home and then went to the gas station and filled it up (was at 1/4 tank). After I filled it, I waited for the dreaded RPM dip, but.... NO DIP!!! Looks like they fixed the issue and then driving it more I noticed that the throttle response was back to normal!!

Thank you BMW Certified Warranty!!!
