Hi Guys,
I have the carlinkit using CarPlay but I am having a couple of issues: 1. When I call someone, I can't hear the person on the other end but that person can hear me. Also, when I try answer the phone using the steering wheel button, it hangs up the line. When I exit CarPlay and use the BMW system, everything works fine. 2. Long pressing the voice command button on the steering wheel does not activate Siri while in CarPlay. Thanks for the help

Just a quick update: I asked them in Chinese and they pretty much just said "it'll get fixed when it get fixed".
They really don't care lol I think our best bet is to just either 1) figure out how to re-enable cross platform software updates or 2) (probably more optimal) figure out how to repack the software ourselves.

Just reading about how Android Auto does widescreen and it seems that it uses the screen resolution, DPI and margin? of the car screen that's being told by the car/MMI to determine widescreen support. Just changing the resolution might not fix it.
It almost seems like the dip switch for the 6.5" (800x480) screens vs the 8.8/10.25 (1280x480) screens should be feeding AA the appropriate specs, but it's not, just stretching the 6.5" interface. Is there a way to tell what resolution AA is outputting? Or maybe it is and the DPI is all wrong. There's a torque plugin called obd2aa that supposedly allows for a DPI change and the author has mentioned in reddit that if it doesn't work, to email for a refund if it doesn't work, just in case anyone wants to try. I might give it a shot, but it's going to be a while before I get the chance. |

AA can handle any resolution you throw out there but the actual resolution is determined by what the MMI feeds to the screen (in this case 480p). Quote:

If anyone is interested in doing it, the company is Sunplus and the product/model is SPHE8388. On that page there are some contact links, e.g. Technical Support with a form to get in touch with them. |

No, they also make the software (it's more like a framework). You can find hundreds of references to it in the .BIN file and also the extracted squashfs partitions. Everything comes from Sunplus.
Not sure how exactly it works. Either they compile each file themselves or they have e.g. a git repository and each seller has its own branch and compiles it from there. |

Andream (carplay or AA) won't send any data to those screens. On HUD and dashboard you will still see anything you currently see (SLI, etc. If your car supports it)

The bimmertech .BIN file cannot be changed in a way to remove the security they added. The dev told me that the BIN they made is a shitfest of spagetti and a nightmare to debug, horribly made. The security feature is a .bin that they placed on the device nand memory which is checked each time. If you don't have this you get INVALID UPDATE. He doesn't even want to begin working on this as it will take too much time.
Easiest is to edit the current working bin for your own device to add 720p in the xml for android auto. If we are 100% this is the only thing required to get aa in panoramic view, i will go ahead and let him do it but i can't say for sure so don't really want to take that gamble. Too bad.... |

Sounds ALOT to me and remember you will either have to pay again for future updates or miss out on any new features in future.

Yeah, 120USD for a simple string change in a .BIN file seems unreasonable. I'm not qualified to do it myself, but it seems like the coder is taking advantage of this situation.

Can someone explain to me the difference between ISPBOOT.BIN and upgrade_mmi.bin?
i know upgrade_mmi.bin does the MCU upgrade but what is the difference? MCU is for the Microcontroller unit and ISPBOOT.BIN for the operating system? So basically a software and a firmware upgrade? |
