Ok everyone! After months of lurking this gigantic post, I finally got around to doing this myself!
I have a 2018 440i xDrive with ID6 EVO and I got the RoadTop unit. The problem I have is that I cannot get the HK hack working for the life of me. I connected my phone to the iDrive BT and have it as "audio" and "calls". I have my phone connected to the MMI box and only have it set to "calls". I enabled the "Use Car BT" option in the MMI box. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong... I enabled AUX using Bimmercode, so I have a way of getting audio through, but I can't get the HK hack working where the audio is through the car BT. Please, any help or suggestions? |

The only thing that happens is when i answer a phone call from the idrive, Android auto will pop a warning saying that "i need to enable phone permissions"

After quite a lot of reading, I am now figuring out that the HK hack that let's you connect your phone to iDrive BT for music and calls while also connecting to MMI for calls + having the "Use Car's Phone BT" option turned on does NOT work for ID6/NBT EVO.
Super disappointing... Using the AUX method means I can't use my steering scroll wheel to change tracks. There's a huge message that appears on my HUD that the function is not available because I'm in AUX mode. |

I'm considering buying the Andream MMI (NBT version) for my F48 2017 X1; I see it's on sale for $235 on their website.
Someone (several pages back) mentioned there may be a new version coming out with BT connection for audio (vs the aux now), which may be worth the wait if the audio is better (I also have HK). Does anyone have any information or heard any similar rumors? |

As for the Bluetooth audio output module, it is currently only used for EVO and Mercedes-Benz NTG5.X, and according to our previous test results, its effect is not very good, and there are still some compatibility issues. If your car is an NBT system, then you can choose to buy the "with HDMI" version, the effect is very good, and the function is relatively stable, if you think the price is still too expensive, you can contact their customer service to get a discount code. ![]() BMW NBT still outputs sound through the AUX of the original car. |

Now, the benefit of this is that even while in AUX mode, you still retain Harman Kardon Logic 7 and all that, which produces higher quality output. This all works across NBT and EVO. Here's where things get interesting: Some people report that they can simply switch over their iDrive to BT mode and still get music out of their car. This is possible ONLY on Carplay and NOT Android Auto and this allows you to use your steering scroll wheel to change tracks, which you cannot do on AUX mode. Some people claim they can do it even on AUX, and I believe that's an NBT only thing and not EVO, but your results may vary. It never worked on my EVO. The reason for some of this weird stuff is because of the difference between Android Auto and Apple Carplay. In Android Auto, every bit of audio transmitted from your phone is completely routed through and ONLY through Android Auto WiFi connection. So even if you connect to a BT device (like your car's iDrive), you'll get no audio out of that BT device since all the audio is still being pushed through AA WiFi. On Carplay, however, you can split those audio sources. So for that reason, some people here can happily use Carplay but use their iDrive BT to listen to music and all that. The HK hack that people confuse this functionality for is simply getting Harman Kardon through AUX. Switching their phone to transmit their audio over the iDrive BT isn't the HK hack. Ok, so for AA users on NBT or NBT Evo, there is one solution to allow for using your iDrive BT for music, retaining steering scroll wheel track selection controls and playing music in a completely OEM BT way. This has no relation to any HK hack because we're not even bothering with AUX here. Anyway, the one and ONLY solution is the AAWireless dongle that you plug into the MMI box USB port to mimick wired AA. And then you connect your phone to the AAWireless dongle and you'll have wireless AA through that dongle. Why does this work? Because the AAWireless app has a function called "disable Audio sink", which is what finally splits audio away from WiFi only on Android Auto, letting you connect it directly to iDrive BT. The catch is that this dongle is $80. Another added benefit though is a much smoother Android Auto experience akin to a wired connection. I spent the money and set it all up. Now I have pure OEM BT music, smooth Android Auto, track selection still visible on my HUD and controllable through my scroll wheel all on my NBT EVO ID6. My MMI box is RoadTop BTW. Whew, what an insane rabbit hole to solve this issue. |

I just purchased the item a few weeks ago and would think it has the latest software. Is there a specific sequence to pair to Bluetooth? Meaning MMI box first and then the car or the other way around. I initially had it only connected to the MMI Bluetooth but paired to the car yesterday after reading some info here.

I would say it's worth a shot? You can always return the dongle if you buy it off Amazon and you don't like it or it doesn't solve your problem. Remember that the dongle needs to plug into the MMI box USB port for it to work! |

Realizing that I'm sounding like a bit of a shill for AAWireless lol. It by no means is cost effective and is only something to pursue to get from 95% functionality to 99%. Our MMI boxes all have wireless built-in, so the main purpose of this dongle is completely useless too. I just use for "Audio Sink".
Anyway, yeah. Hopefully this thing won't crap out on me because I paid a total of $400 between the MMI box and the dongle. |

Guys anyone got the new waze update? Its impossible for user to exit waze menu options. Focus remains within waze and i can't get back to the menu and icons of android auto via scroll wheel. This was not an issue prior to recent update. Right pain.
