Had a similar problem a few times - in my case it resumes playing if i press the media source (mode) button on the steering wheel 2 times. It switches from bluetooth to fm radio and back, and then it works.

Thank you for response. I will try it, just wanted to understand if my mmi software has BT audio support or not, cause in the manual also it is saying to put the channel to AUX IN, but oem BT calls are working ok. Also does Carlinkit has newer soft version that I have?

I tried, but didnt work that way also. Seems it has no BT audio option. Can someone please share newer CUST than mine for Carlinkit? (Mine is 9.6.8.yl.b2) are there a version to activate BT audio also along with BT calls?

Your version is current and allows Bluetooth connection.
You have to connect the car's Bluetooth with the phone, connect the phone via Bluetooth with the mmi box, configure the two options in the mmi box menu to "on", and select the bluetooth multimedia channel in Idrive. Then press "back" for two seconds to restart everything and it should work.

Many thanks for the response, the connections are the same way as you described, the only thing is that in MMI settings there is no 2 options for bluetooth. Its only one saying "Use car BT phone" which is ON and I guess it should be also present "Use car BT channel" something like this which I am not able to see. I tried to put as off the first one and restart so the second option appears (noticed that way in the forum), but thats not the case it is not appearing

So I just tried the way you told. First I unpaired all connections then connected to cars BT after that connected to MMI BT and selected ON the only bluetooth option in mmi. After that choosen the multimedia BT and by pushing back button restarted everything. In phone bt connection settings it is showing that both car and mmi connected for calls and audio, but still cannot hear the sound ( I also tried the same with mmi bt option off and in that case not able to choose calls and audio for mmi its only calls possible to choose without audio on the phone bt settings). When changing the source in car to aux in the sound appearing immediately. Please let me know if I am doing something wrong

I messaged Carlinkit last year about the option to use BT for media instead of Aux. They confirmed that they have not implemented that feature.

Yep. I got the impression they weren't really interested in supporting their unit anymore.

Yes, Carlinkit is MIA. Seems like they abandoned the MMI and went balls deep with dongles to convert wired factory CarPlay and AA to wireless.

I think the latest supported/updated/improved MMIs in the $200-300 range are Andream. Check out their website.

I have a Carlinkit 9.6.9r1 for the B2 version, but I cannot vouch for it nor do I know what new features are on it, if any. So if you try it, install at your own risk. Read the thread for the install procedure and the risks involved. Use a quality/brand name USB drive FAT32. I had issues with a PNY Attache USB drive, and do not use it anymore for this.

Based on the first page of this thread, you have:

Based on the first page, the earlier B2 version 1 and version 2 were not compatible with each other, but if I remember correctly, that latest firmware is the same for the "n" and the no "n" version of the CUST firmware.

There may be newer ones, but this is the latest one I have. This one has full bluetooth instead of AUX-IN for audio. Install at your own risk. Read the thread for the install procedure and the risks involved.

Use a FAT32 formatted quality/brand name USB drive, 32GB or less. Use the ISPBOOT.bin file on the root directory.

Thank you very much, generally I am happy with my unit, the only thing I wanted is the bluetooth audio which seems not possible to have on it based on some comments here and as carlinkit told it directly.

Installed a firmware update on my RoadTop mmi box yesterday, definitely some new options have popped up, haven't checked them all, however I am now able to hear Waze directions/alerts when listening to music through BMW BT, don't have to set it to AUX anymore and loose the sound quality. My mmi box is also around 3 years old and I am using Carplay

Yeah I think andream had that feature a while back. But it had mono audio, did you have that problem?
