Why did you choose the 3 GT?

Just wondering. Did you do it, like me, for the rear seat space? Or was there another reason? If BMW sold the long wheelbase sedan (saloon) in your country, would you have gotten that instead?

Me, personally, I got it for the back seat, and yes, if they sold a 335Li here, I'd have gotten that instead. As is though, the closest sedan with a backseat the size of a 3GT is the short wheelbase 7, which is like twice the price.

in my case:
1. outside look (love it!)
2. just this (6cyl) engine combined with 8speed AT, in a not-to-heavy car
3. nice space inside

Since I needed room for four dogs, I wanted a wagon, but the only one that was comparable in size was the E-Class. In the end, the GT was a compromise, but I don't regret getting it at all.

Rear leg room and hatch ability to carry stroller and wagon. Coming from a 335i which was too small for the stroller and rear leg room was very tight with toddler's legs against seat. Am I happy with this car, no not really. It was a compromise. There is hardly any aftermarket stuff available for it. When my lease is up kids will be 5 1/2 and 2 1/2 both in booster seats so I will go with 4GC or Panamera. Was leaning towards Panamera earlier this year when we ordered GT but did not want to spend cash. Had a 911 Carrera 2 before my last 335i. I dont regret getting it but it is not the same as the 3 series I came from.

Solid performance with or without MPPK, rear leg room and cargo space. Looks decent(M Sport+19") for what it is.

I sold my 2010 e91 320dat and was in need for a bigger car.

I narrowed it Down to 4 Choices.
Bmw 520dxdrive touring
Bmw x3 20d/i xdrive
Tesla model S
and of course the GT

after driving them all I was most satisfied With the GT.

You may wondering why the Tesla was in the lineup, and thats because there is no tax on EV vehicles in Norway so alle these vehicles are pretty much the same price.
But besides Acceleration it is not even Close to the BMs. interior, gadgets, handling etc...

The GT ticks all the boxes for me. And with studded Continental conti ice contact for the Winter season its a mean machine

I didn't want an SUV and needed similar utility. For ~$50K, the 3GT was the only some-what sporty/fast car offering substantially more passenger space and utility than a F30 or even F10. I probably would have gone with the F31 had BMW thrown it on the LWB chassis and offered it with the N55, but they didn't. I don't regret buying it, but if I were looking now I would cross-shop with a Macan S (don't really see it as an SUV: only about 4 inches taller than the 3GT) and used Panamera.

1. Rear leg room.
2. In a heartbeat (assuming it didn't come with the Chinese market bling).

1. Rear seat room.
2. I found the vehicle concept intriguing and identify with it. I like the blending of the various attributes of a sedan, wagon and a SUV.

Below's a great TED talk of Chris Bangle (former BMW design head) discussing how a team of engineers & designers set out in the early 2000s to find "the next thing after the SUV". Their work resulted in a bunch of concept cars and the creation of the PAS (Performance Activity Sedan) -> the 5 Series Gran Turismo.

wmb says it well. The GT was the "sedan+" we wanted - then it has the latest BMW tech/interior and the rear legroom was a nice added bonus.

Garage List
2004 Z4  [0.00]
2018 BMW X3 M40i  [10.00]
I had 2 X5's - nice but $$$ on gas and I prefer a more car like ride.
Had an E91 touring and liked it, but the F31 in Canada is only a 4 cyl, the ride was nice but not as spirited.
F34 is bigger than the touring, great ride and spirited.
So it is not as fast as a 435, but since I have an M3 and a Z4 I really wanted a family car that is fun to drive and comfortable for the long drive to visit my in-laws.

I was between a Volvo S60 and a BMW X3 - then the sales guy showed me the GT and I was sold. I used to have a Saab so the shape was familiar

1. Rear leg room and boot space
2. It's not saloon or tourer
3. It's different from the rest of the cars in my car park at work.
4. It was cheaper on my company car scheme versus a similar spec tourer.

The past 3 cars of mine have all been 2 door coupes but with now having 2 children having only 2 doors is to much hard work strapping the kids in etc... I was originally looking at leasing a C Class Salon or a F30 320D. After contacting a few lease companies one got back to me offering a F34 330D xDrive a lot cheaper than a F30 320D... So me and the wife headed over to my local dealership to have a look at the GT in person, I still preferred the looks F30 but the wife loved the GT... I decided to not to go for what i 'thought' looked best and go for the far better deal on the GT for the reasons being the wife loved it, the spec difference and the price difference... Plus the extra space!!

But now after reading more and more posts on here how owners are really happy with their GT's, watching video's, looking at more pics and seeing the odd one on the road I actually can not wait for it to arrive and I am happy I went for a F34 and not a F30 now

Size matters.
The other cars we were considering were all too cramped in the back.
Most people's first response as thy get in the car is "wow, it's roomy"
I went from a 2008 E61 to the GT and the only compromise (room wise) was the width.
I like having a hatch. This is my 3rd BMW with the first being a 3 series wagon and then a 5 series wagon. I'll never own a sedan.
The looks have grown on me. There are a few angles which are awkward, but the M-sport package balances the rear better than the stock look.
I wish I would have waited to find one with the Xenon lights, though.
I enjoy the ride, panoramic roof, iDrive, and the engine.

Rear space. I traded in an X1 because my wife hated how the kids didn't have space in the back. And I never liked how the X1 looked. The 3gt looks a lot more sporty to me.

i just bought a 3gt 328i mtech, i liked the extra room in the back plus the really big boot which i don't need very often but it's there when i do, it is a little bit softer especially in comfort mode and as i am working in saudi [the roads there leave a lot to be desired] so that's a good thing, and as i got the mtech -in sport mode it is hardly different to any other 3 series. my wife likes the fact that she sits up a bit higher - the 3gt is about 3 inches higher at the roof line.
i've been driving it for a month now and enjoying it a lot - it can't live up to my m3 i left behind in uk but it's an excellent car - i particularly like the adptive lights system - amazing!

I see many people list the rear space as a reason for getting the 3 GT.

I'm curios to know how does it compare to F30's rear space? I assumed those two are more-less the same.

Rear leg room F30 = 35.1 inches

Rear leg room F10 = 36.1 inches

Rear leg room F34 = 39.2 inches

Basically in the BMW brand in the USA you have to step up to a 5GT or 7 series to get more rear seat leg room than an F34.

The F34 is built on the long wheelbase platform from the Chinese F35. The wheelbase is approximately 5 inches longer, and most of that goes to rear seat legroom. All other F3x models are built on the short wheelbase platform.

I chose the GT (320d) for it's looks. I don't spend any time in the back seat and my 12 y/o daughter would fit fine in any BMW, the extra room is just a bonus. I never test drove any other model before chosing, but a had a look at Audi A4 and Volvo V60.

It's a company car and I went from a Volvo V60 to the GT. BMW had a campaign together with Swedish Childhood Foundation (where my wife works) at the time and gave me a sweet deal on the lease, even cheaper than my V60.

We can't choose more than the basics when choosing company cars, but at least I got xdrive, automatic and Advantage Edition. I added PPK myself, worth every penny!!!

Hatchback first (ideal for work and estates involve load covers and don't look that great) then rear legroom and also (shock, horror) I think it's better looking than the saloon.

Brilliant car!!
