Lapping 225 tire on 8.5'' wheel

Hi guys, I was thinking of going to a lapping event this summer with my 335 F30 but I would like to know first if I could use my current tire setup. Right know I have Pirelli Cinturaro P7 225/45/R18 tire on wheel of 8.5'' width, I know those tire are far from the best choice for this kind of use but thats what I got.

Is there a risk form my tire to ''unrim'' if I use them in a lapping event since they are a bit streched ?

Thanks

You should be fine if you run proper tire pressures.

what track? Mt Tremblant?

as the poster above said, watch you pressures and you should be alright. the risk will still be there though so keep that in mind. the stock tire size is really narrow for the weight so avoid over driving...easy to say, very difficult to do.

consider getting a wheel alignment and add some camber in all four corners. you won't get much out of the front if you are stock.

I have 245 40 18's on my 8.5 inch ARC-8 wheels on all 4 corners, RE71Rs. I think other have run 255's on the 8.5 based on other threads. I encourage you to just do a google search, but there is nothing out of the ordinary about running 245's it's the ideal tire size on an 8.5 inch wide wheel. I would get something other than All Search tires for a track day, like a summer high performance tire in the 200-300 treadware rating.

Sorry yeah I misread. I have seen plenty of stock BMW vehicles at track days. Your instructor will keep you safe and from exceeding the limitations of the vehicle. I would not be concerned in the least about using a factory configuration, in this case tire/wheel sizes on the track. It's not optimal but isn't dangerous, can tire blow out on the track sure. Kind of the risk you need to accept.

Factory specs are 225 on an 8" wheel, not 8.5". Honestly I dont think there will be any issues, particularly with non racing tires, the grip will go away way before there is enough force to unbead the tire in THEORY, so proceed with caution. One thing you can do is mark the sidewall with a wax crayon and do a session going 9\10ths, that way you can see if there are any issues from the sidewalls rolling over as in theory they are not square to the wheel.
