Need advice: lease buy out vs cash new
Hi everyone, my lease is coming to an end soon and I really need some help to decide what to do with it.
So my current lease is a 2018 440i GC, with Premium Essential, M Performance Package I & II (yeah, I'm from Canada and these options are roughly equal to ZL0, ZL1, ZMP, ZTR in the south I believe). I have been enjoying this car (especially the digital cluster and the stock M sport exhaust!!!) and would love to keep it for longer. Now, the car is 3 years and 22k miles. RV is roughly 40k CAD (including buy out admin fee, residual is 59%) before tax. I tried to search on Autotrader to find a similar car but cannot find one on private sale. The website suggests the following, 1. average trade-in price is 36k CAD 2. average buying price is 46k CAD 3. "good" selling price is 43k CAD I'm not sure how to interpret these values against my RV, is the RV overpriced compared to the current market value? Because everyone I asked told me the RV is too high and I should not buy it out. Note that I'm trying to get off a car lease so leasing new is the least favorable option. I was also offered a very interesting proposal. A local dealer has a 2020 440i GC (F36) sitting in their lot for quite some time. They want to get rid of it so they can probably offer a competitive deal. Moreover, it is new and BMW FS is offering 10.5k CAD as cash incentive. This 2020 F36 is pretty much fully loaded (all of my options plus the ZPX executive package minus active LED), which means it has some of the additional features I want like HK sound system, HUD and 360 camera. It has MSRP of 72245 CAD, the dealer is giving me 7% off MSRP before any incentives, plus 12k CAD total incentives. Given the above 2 choices, a 3-year, 22k miles used car @ 40k vs a same model new car with full warranty and 3k more options but was produced over a year ago in April 2019. What do you guys think? Edit: updated production date of the new car... Last edited by fate9834; 11-08-2020 at 12:53 PM.. |

Before we get into the details, when did you lease your MY18 440 Gran Coupe? I don't recall the residual ever being 59%. I know it was either high 60's on a 24 month lease and 57% or 56% for 36-month+.

Interesting! so your car for $40k verses the new car for what $55k?
unless there are some options on the newer car that you cannot live without, I would add extended warranty on your current car and buy it. Your car is practically new still and you have already paid for most of the depreciation. That would be my advice. Good luck! |

I REALY like the HUD and the 360 camera, so my tendency would be to get the newer one. Having said that, the numbers work out to $15,000 for a 3-year newer car. That works out to about $417 per month
