In total around $1600 I would say. I was able to find one complete headlight a few months ago for $700, then was able to piece together the other side, then order all the parts brand new for the levelers which I plan to try. It really is a matter of patience unless you want to spend big, I spent months looking for the control module on ebay with no luck, then out of the blue 2 of them get listed within days and I finally was able to get one for $75 instead of having to buy it new for $300.

I also found that for another one of the screws, you can just find the equivalent at Lowe's/Home Depot. There was one in particular, "B. 07129904491 (x4) - ISA M5x10 screw", that would have been on backorder for a couple weeks, so I just got a couple packs of M5x10 flat pan screws that seem to work just fine.

Is there anyway to simply make the xenons only adaptive?

Thanks

Coding was no different, since adding the VO options 522 and 524 don't affect the headlights at all.

Some positive news to report! I finally finished this retrofit, and everything seems to function just fine, except I am having one minor problem. My passenger side headlight is aimed down much more than the driver's side, and I am receiving an error on the car of "Headlight Vertical Aim Control Malfunction."

EDIT: So apparently that is the error message given regarding the levelers issue, because when I use the coding to disable the levelers, that error message went away. I was able to adjust the headlight beam manually back to being level. I will have to keep looking into this to see if I can figure out a resolution.

Otherwise, everything works great! Thanks to those who put in the effort to make the guide. It was very spot on, including the difficulty in installing the rear leveler and removing the halogen headlights lol.

My 2014 328d (build 09/13) has pn 63117259551 and 63117259552 for headlights, but it apparently does not have adaptive headlights.

I VO coded 524 on to it, coded the ecu, and then fdl coded LWR_AHL_TYP = auto./dyn. LWR+AHL = 03, C_FLC_ENA = F030disable (stock was F030enable but tried disabled anyways), C_AFS_ENA = F030enable, C_BLC_ENA = F030enable, C_CLC_ENA = F030enable.

It did have the auto leveling headlights before, and they still function, but I'm getting adaptive headlight failure message on my gauge cluster. Is there anything else I need to code (or add?) to get this all up and running? I'm hoping that since I have at least 63117259551 that 63117259552 is also an adaptive headlight but I can't find any info on these part numbers other than 63117259551 here.

Thanks!

From TokenMaster... but even he puts out his disclaimers . I tried to get as close to your build date as possible. It only has options for March, July, and November 2013 - so I picked November.

Fortunately, it appears only two ECUs are affected, FEM_01 and REM_01. Its looks like all your FDL coding was done only on FEM_01. Try coding REM_01 as well. I'm not sure why REM would be affected by headlights, but its listed here.

Good luck and let us know how it goes

Never seen that tool before Can I take the output from my car and do a diff between the two? Would be easier than doing it manually.

Yes, there is a .ncd file comparison feature where you can open up two .ncd files and it will allow you to see a line by line compare of the values.

Here you go

I can't find anything about those part #'s, and Google only turns up a couple hits. The document in the instructions is a typo, it should be 63117259554. So if your headlights are in fact the Non adaptive ones, you wouldn't be able to add the coding successfully since they wouldn't have the correct mechanism in the lights.

Yeah, that seems to be the case. Looking at other headlights on realoem, the last digits being lower indicated there is no adaptive headlight options... Tried coding the options from above but still getting the adaptive headlight error. Autoleveling works fine though, but that came with the car...

I'm seriously choked at my dealer because they said the car had adaptive headlights, which is one of the options I wanted because it was incredibly useful on my E90 where I live. I didn't actually double check on delivery and just assumed that the bi-xenons meant adaptive headlights since thats what I was told came with the lighting package. It wasn't until about a week after delivery that I noticed that they didn't swivel when I drove because I hadn't done any night driving since.
Of course once I brought this to their attention, they ended up being useless and saying "Oh, it's only on the 2015's for the 328s and its part of the executive package. Nothing we can do now unless you want to trade it in and get a new card..."

Wow, yeah I'd be pretty mad. On the plus side though, since you already have the Xenon's, all you would have to do would be to swap out the housings and the control modules and double check the wiring connections. If you shop eBay, you can get some in good condition, if you find some good deals I'd say for all 4 parts it'd probably be a ballpark of around $900 USD. Not sure if it's worth that much to you, but it'd be cheaper than having to do the full retrofit

Yeah... it felt worse when I bought my 2013. Only the 335 had adaptive xenons up till the 2015 model year, which the 328 started to get them. And considering that I came from a car with adaptive xenons, it was a feature I kind of missed but it wasn't too bad once I got used to having static xenons.

Yeah. I drive a lot of windy roads at night and I'm really missing it, but these static xenons are pretty amazingly bright.

Yeah I'm kind of tempted to retrofit it and then sell off the old parts.
So I guess this would be my shopping list?

63117259553 or 63117338707 - Driver side adaptive headlight
63117259554 or 63117338708 - Passenger side adaptive headlight

hey guys, new to the f30 here and was on e90post for a few years, so i picked up a f30 with the dreaded halogens. My question is, since there so many adaptive headlights on ebay can i buy a adaptive one, but code only xenon and not adaptive and make them be static? would that work? or will they not work properly?

It is likely possible, but why in the world would you want to? If going through all the work, adaptive is the best part about them.. you can throw in some cheap aftermarket ballasts and xenon bulbs to your existing headlights if all you want is xenon. .

The reason why is because
1) i dont care for adaptive, i mostly drive on the freeways so i do not need to bee around corners that much.

2) to retrofit adaptive xenons i will need to install sensors on my control arms and run wires thru the car to the computer and its a lot of work.

3) i dont want to just put a hid kit into a halogen reflector, light goes everywhere

Actually, I believe the Xenon lights all come with the levelers, regardless of if they are adaptive or not. This is evidenced by looking at the coding changes made by adding VO option 522(Xenon Lights), which includes changes that enable the levelers. Nothing in the changes for Option 524 that I have seen had anything to do with the levelers. Additionally, if you look at the front axle suspension on RealOEM, it lists the levelers as "For vehicles with Xenon Light (S522A=Yes) or Adaptive LED headlight (S552A=Yes)."

The only difference in the adaptive Xenons is the housing and the control module. So either way, you would need the levelers unless you just code it to disable them.
