Hmm, so before you removed the 8S4 for VLD, your lights were still adaptive (cornering, auto-leveling), but just didn't auto-adjust the beam patterns?

Basically, what we did was left #34/3B and #26/2B plugged in, and tapped the new grounds to those existing wires, but now I'm starting to think that was incorrect.

I was wondering if I were to disable VLD, the headlights would function properly for me, but I don't think that's the case.

For everyone else, and those that send me PMs, I do not check this site very much anymore. I sold my F30 about a year ago now and have not done any work with BMWs since. I am not a BMW wiring expert (I am not any wiring or mechanical expert at all, I am in medicine), I just did the research on my own car and documented my findings and work. So I am unable to help you on Euro spec cars, cars without adaptive function, etc. Thanks everyone for the recognition for doing the DIY (now I wish I would have charged for it, lol). It is proven to work, just follow the instructions. If you have a different car, do you own research and figure it out, it wasn't that hard really, just make an effort. Good luck to everyone!!! |

To anyone who has done this mod or has the adaptive headlight package, is there any way to adjust the horizontal alignment of the projectors? On the halogens there were clearly two adjustment screws. On the HIDs the one that adjusts horizontal position has a protective cap over it. Does this cap simply need to be removed prior to adjustment? I'm concerned that the cap is there there to prevent horizontal adjustment in order to prevent damaging the swivel motor.

To anyone that completed this retrofit, have you had any issues with the automatic transmission/gear selector switching driving modes ("D", "M", "S") by itself?

Hi Guys, long time lurker, 1st post.
I have an F35 (China) with xenon lights that are not adaptive (i.e. no light movement with steering). Coding 522/524 did not work either. Upon repairs from an accident I had my driver-side headlight replaced (PN# 63117339389), which is where I confirmed my headlights were not adaptive. I was wondering is replacing the driver module alone (PN# 63117316186) and coding would be sufficient to make those headlights alive. Also, is it possible to replace the module without dismounting the headlight (i.e. without removing the bumper etc)? Any guidance is welcome. Thanks!! I don't believe you would be able to just replace the module. You would need to replace the entire headlamp as the one you currently have(non-adaptive) would be missing the hardware to make them turn correctly. At a minimum, you would need to replace both housings and both driver modules. |

anyone aware of a pre-LCI xenon retrofit into 2016 LCI?
i can source the headlights is it just a matter of coding to make it work with a car that originally had halogen? i'm on the fence about a car with halogen -_- so i am checking out all my options i'm willing to spend about $1500 to just upgrade the headlights to XENON, not the new LED |

Does anyone know if the old lights 63117259553 / 554 that I can't find at the Realoem are going to work okay with 2015 F30 ? Cause it seems 63117338707 /708 are the ones I would need (which is more expensive) according to the realoem.

here comes a dumb (but important question) the headlight control module ... what exactly does it control? is it to control the ADAPTIVE headlight? Does a non-adaptive xenon headlight unit have this part or no? anyone know?

From someone with halogen lights.
1. If I were to pay BMW to upgrade my canon to Xenons, what would it cost? 2. If I were to buy the parts and do this myself, how much are the parts in total? |

Hi everyone,
Finally, I got all the parts for the retrofit and I'm almost ready to start. My only concern before starting with the retrofit is the FEM harness change. I have the German version of the F31 and the tutorial from kapkanimd is written for the US version. It seems pretty much the same, but comparing to Doni's post, there are two different pins: US version (kapkanimd): Move pin 26 from connector A173*2B to ---> pin 53 in connector A173*3B Move pin 34 from connector A173*3B to ---> pin 41 in connector A173*3B Move pin 51 from connector A173*3B to ---> pin 53 in connector A173*4B Move pin 39 from connector A173*3B to ---> pin 54 in connector A173*4B EU version (DoNi): Move pin 26 from connector A173*2B to ---> pin 53 in connector A173*3B Move pin 34 from connector A173*3B to ---> pin 41 in connector A173*3B Move pin 49 from connector A173*4B to ---> pin 53 in connector A173*4B Move pin 37 from connector A173*4B to ---> pin 54 in connector A173*4B Can anyone confirm if DoNi's scheme is correct for the EU version? As anyone tried it? Many thanks |

Just finished doing this retro and thank you for all those contributed!
I'm having an error "adaptive headlight malfunction". Could this be from a faulty drivers control module? Or could it be from something else? Also, the drivers side angel eye stays on for few mins after shutting the car off. Any relations to the the issue above? Everything works on the headlights (angel eyes, signal, highbeam, etc), haven't tested the adaptive part yet since its still day light out. UPDATE: swapping out the drivers control module doesn't change anything. I'm going to check on my coding. UPDATE 2: adaptive part doesn't work (not surprising). The "up and down" check/test when the car starts do work but they are out of sync. Last edited by jkwhar; 09-24-2016 at 07:54 PM.. |

I decided to take apart an extra xenon headlight so see of the angel eyes/ LED ring are controlled by the drivers control module and indeed it does. Still doesn't answer why it behaves the same when swapping over the modules unless the control modules communicate to each other. Looks like I'll be purchasing another drivers control module and see if that works.

The new drivers control module got delieved this morning. Swapped it, recoded and still same behavior.
Does anyone know which pin is responsible for CAN communications for the driver side? UPDATE: Figured out the issue. It wasn't the DCM and should've known that when swapping them driver/passenger side. It ended up being I miss placed pin #8 on the headlight harness side. I have an extra DCM for active headlights if anyone wants to buy them! PM me. Last edited by jkwhar; 10-01-2016 at 01:23 PM.. |
