New s6/7
Posted over at PistonHeads.
Interesting they have electric power too. However they are diesel! https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en/...mpressor-11482 Audi are having issues with WLTP AFAIK and the lucky folk in US Middle East etc get the 450bhp petrol including the MHEV system in the release they say it’s ‘customer preference’ what a load of BS |

Now they've just badged it up an S6 or S7 and added a massive premium, to what is basically there top end tdi. The real S6 seems to have been scrapped it would seem. |

The huge torque peaking at 700 newton-meters (516.3 lb-ft) constantly available on demand to the driver across an engine speed range of 2,500 to 3,100 rpm is the ideal basis for performance-minded customers
What a load of shite. 600rpm powerband.. I did hear the s4 is also going derv so could well be the same type of thing. Looks like the c43 and m340i may be the only sub rs/full fat AMG/M options now. Well actually and Kia! |

Why is it zero torque and power either side of this? I don't see where it says that. If there is - say - just 600Nm available from 3100rpm to 4500rpm is that not enough?

Compared to a performance turbo petrol engine it's a short peak torque band, I've got 500lb/ft as well but it's always reducing so the initial surge isn't sustained.

Of course but then even outside of this band there is plentiful torque. I'd be tempted to drive it but since our learned friend has decreed it "a load of shite" (who presumably has driven it given such a proclamation) I perhaps won't bother.

But diesels do suffer from that peak torque failing away so never quite feel that quick if you know what I mean.

The old biturbo certainly felt better than the 35d, just because of a bit of noise. But, in my opinion it should have stayed badged something else, and not become the new S6/S7, with the associated price increase! |

Yes can't argue with either of the last two posts. Hope it doesn't have fake exhaust outlets too...

Specs looked similar to my 40D to be fair. MPG torque etc etc fuel sightly better on the X3 SUV unless I was mid reading some of it.

Can't remember the last time I saw a previous version of the S6, but plenty of RS6 about.
There is a clearly a trade-off between retaining petrol power and achieving realistic running costs with the sub-performance models. Probably also explains why the SQ5 has reverted to diesel with the previous generation having been more successful as a DERV, actual sales numbers would be good but the petrol SQ5 is a rare beast on the roads. JustChris what made you go 40d as opposed to 40i when swapping out of the M3?

I have started opening up a lot more in this now and it is deceptively fast. De-badged now and not many folks really know what it is, suspectibg just a 2.0d x3 truck, but off a roundabout its relentless with that slight rolling start, leaves most cars behind.

X3 in M Performance guise is probably my pick of the current BMW range just now, glad you're enjoying it.

For context I was pointing out Audi marketing are highlighting that as a big performance plus with peak power over a very small rev range. It's not like it was saying peak torque from 1600 to 5000 as you might have with a grunty turbo petrol, which a S6 should have. It will doubtless be fast and does look smart but any S or RS model to me should have a petrol, but then I'm old and stuck in my ways.. |

I suppose I meant in terms of performance.
In terms of trim/luxury yeah, it'll be more like a 640GC (if it were an actual hatch boot). I just can't get enthused about Audis. I've had my eye on the S7 Sportback for ages but I just know I wouldn't look at it the same way. Weird. |
