Anyone's fog lights come on when auto is on? I have one come on!

I have a 2015 F33 that is three months old. I always have my auto lights on and I know the fog lights do not/should not come on when auto is on - you need to do it manually and the headlights will dim. HOWEVER, last night when I pulled up to my house and got out to get the mail, my left fog light was on. Auto lights, no fog button pushed, and the left fog light was on, not the right. I then went in the car and hit the fog lights and they both came on. When I moved it from auto to headlights on, neither fog was lit. When I went back to auto, that damn left fog was on and the right was off again. It looks ridiculous. Anyone else run into this? I'm sure it can be fixed, but come on...brand new car...unacceptable.

The fog lights double as turning lights. When the wheel is turned past a certain point the direction the wheel is turned's fog light will illuminate.

To get into your house, do you make a left turn in?

This...

It's in the blurb about your car and it's lights.

You can (a lot in UK) change the fogs to give a more white light that blends with xenons and looks better when cornering 'lights' cone on.

You can also code these. I find it helps a lot going around dark corners where the adaptive headlights wouldn't swivel enough.

Do they activate as cornering with the turn signal as well? I could have sworn once I noticed in the reflection off the car in front that the fog came on when I had my blinker on. But then I couldn't replicate it in the driveway, even with the wheel turned. Just figured it only worked when the car was moving? But the time I noticed the reflection I was stopped. Weird.

Classic. Your CA didnt explain this? Its a pretty common issue and is/was a hot button topic in recent training material. One of commons complaints to JD powers and its only because no one told them it is supposed to do that.

yes. They activate during a slow speed but sharp turn (think 90' like a driveway)

if you have your fogs on, it will turn off the outside light

Only under a certain speed (I think 15mph?) will it turn on, either by turning the wheel or with the turn signal. It should remain on when stopped if the turn signal is engaged, but turns off after a few seconds if your wheel was removed if I remember correctly.

Do you have more info on that? I've been thinking about switching over to the 4 series LED fogs just to get a better match on color.

Also, when you turn your blinker, one of the fogs will turn on.

Straighten your wheels when parked. It's good habit.

Don't worry, OP. I thought I had a fog light out when I saw the reflection of my car at a turn, with only the one light illuminated.

Another small, but very useful feature that reminds me why I don't buy Chevy products anymore.

You guys make it sound like this futuristic technology, but should i remind you that Buicks from last millenium already had this feature of lighting up the side when you have the blinker on at night...

This is nothing new, i love Bmw. But here they didnt innovate anything....

It's actually a very low rent solution.

Other manufacturers have proper cornering lights.

For example 2007 Mondeo's has lights built in to main headlight assembly, these light up a good 90 degrees to car and meet up with main lights.

This gives a very good left / right view of driveway, tight country bends etc.

BMW very low budget.

The swiveling adaptive lights are definitely not low budget, just because they use the fog lights to compliment the adaptive lights for turns doesn't make their solution any cheaper.

You are mixing two seperate systems.

The adaptive lights (we get the full month over here) are amazing, fully magic lights.

BMW and a number of other manufacturers have went low budget and just use the fog lights.

You don't specifically need adaptive for the fogs to cone on then you turn the wheel on most cars.

Fog lights for cornering lights are bargain basement - simple.

Other manufacturers do it far better than BMW in this respect..
