Best Tune for 440i with High Flow Downpipe?

As a first time car owner I’m looking for a tune for my baby 440i to go with my CTS Turbo High flow catted downpipe, which will give me the best of both worlds in terms of sound and least effect on engine life, as my limited understanding is more aggressive tunes=less engine longevity.

I’m not too worried about the speed increase as I gap 99% of folks in Southern California even with stock tune (I’ve lost to an M8 in LA)

Basically, every main OTS maps (Bootmod, MG Flasher, MHD) will give you good results, with an overall good reliability.

You could even go stage 2, as you have a sport cat, but the overall impact on the engine will mostly depend on the quality (especially regarding octane) of the fuel you have access to.

Indeed, even OTS maps sometimes create a lot of timing corrections, or even knock, which are not good for the engine.

To know which map to choose (stage 1 or 2, 91, 93 or 95 octane), you have to check you engine parameters via logging.

There is a dedicated thread about logging in the forum.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but if this indeed your baby you may want a better downpipe. CTS cats have been know to melt/come apart. While that's a concern for any catted dp..CTS just seems to be more frequent.

Yeah OP should probably run a stage 1 tune or go stage 2 with OEM burbles. My cts high flow cat melted so i had to remove the downpipe and clunk it out.

I wouldn't even run OEM burbles on the CTS pipe. That's what I was running that caused the damage on mine. They also won't warranty it.

Hi,
I recommend the bootmod3 tune

Your post is not clear on whether you already have the CTS downpipe or you are getting the tune and downpipe at the same time.

Either way, check us out, we are also Las Vegas locals if you ever need to do a local pick up.

Most of these cats companies are using are fairly low quality and won't last very long especially with high heat and burbles.

i recommend bootmod3 either running a stage 1 or stage 2 tune with the xHP stage 1 or stage 2 transmission flash. xHP recommends that stage 1 is the best for transmission longevity and will remove the torque limiter on the engine. Since you live in socal our 91 gas isnt too great so I'd suggest running ethanol (e30) to help clean timing and making sure you're getting consistent numbers on ur logs

I need to be convinced by research that e30 is “ok” for my engine, as BMW doesn’t ever mention “ethanol”… Any leads?

well most modern cars are designed to support the ethanol so no corrosion of any fuel lines occur due to the 10% ethanol found in pump gas. a blend of ethanol would not be considered a high amount of ethanol therefore you will still retain the properties of gasoline. you would further increase the octane of your fuel which has a higher chance of preventing knock, timing correction, etc. most people run e30-e50 blends depending on their setup and they run just fine. now if you were putting straight ethanol into your car you would lose the properties that gasoline provides when combusting and will thin out the oil more than normal pump gas. on the bright side, you will have lower combustion temperatures going on in the combustion chamber which is good as our motors tend to have pistons melt due to the combustion chamber temperatures being too high if i am not mistaken

Bruh. A lot of us are running E50-60 and up to full E85 mixes (with PI and LPFP upgrade). E30 is nothing lol. Grab a TU HPFP, flash Stage 2+ E30 and go gap some STI's.

I ran E50 on my N54 335
100% E85 on my S55 M4 (stock fueling system)
and I will be running E40 on my S58 M4 Comp (once it's back from the body shop)

Just installed the downpipe and the MPPSK tune is showing amazing logs as well as pulling like a champ (delayed fuel injecting feel is gone) for my fuel at Arco. Going to stick with this setup. If it aint broke dont fix it.

How about ER catted dp? You're only selling catted dp at the moment.

This is why I picked up a active autowerke high flow dp. No CEL guarantee and I've been 5000 percent happy with it.
