Just a follow up as I finally got mine taken care of last week. I think the reason why the fuse shows "service indicator" is probably because if the fuse blows out, the horn blew up and the fuse protected the rest of the electricals. I had both horns replaced and the fuse. Everything works like a charm and was happy to use it as another genius in a e90 with previous body damage decided to drift into my slow lane until I honked and he realized I was already there.

The level sensor measures the dielectric properties of the fluid - Google capacitance or permittivity- and apparently does not like the orange Rain-X. Capacity is 3L - warning came on with about 1L remaining.

F30 Horn
Same issue as reported by others on my F30 in regards to the horn not functioning. I checked the 15 amp fuse located in the FEM module in the front passenger side of the car. Most report that it is this fuse that blows. However I tested the fuse and it was not blown at all but removing the fuse for around 1 minute and putting it back resolved the issue for me. My assumption is that it must have reset whatever issue there was in the FEM unit (or elsewhere) that was causing the horn not to function.
A bit worrying as I hardly use the horn but feel like I will now have to randomly try it to ensure it does work! Hopefully BMW work out what causes this and have a recall on this. Accessing this fuse is a little fiddly and not ideal if the problem keeps reoccurring!! Technically I could have just popped it into BMW and they would have sorted it under warranty bit being me I needed to know for myself what the issue was as I tend not to trust what the dear tells you!! In this case they would have probably told me that they have replaced the fuse when in reality the fuse didn't need replacing. So the question still remains what causes the horn to freak out and stop working on this model?? software bug?? |

Just wanted to add to the thread, this thread has been really helpful. I had the same issue of horn not working on a F30 BMW 2013. I simply bought the 15amp fuse from wallmart. I opened the passenger side FEM module. Its pretty ease to remove and open. I replaced the fuse and I was good to go. The horn works again. Thanks everyone

Silly question perhaps but how do you access this FEM module by the A Pillar. I dont see an access hatch so I assume I have to dismantle that area below the glove box. Anyone have any further instruction for a newbie ?

Then I removed the under dash panel beneath the glove box. There's 2 x 10mm nuts to remove and then you pull the part directly under the glove box hinge downward. It just unclips and then you pull it back towards you. There's an LED foot lamp you need to disconnect too. From there, the fuse panel is covered by a black plastic plate that's held with a torx screw. Remove the screw, and then the plate can be removed, exposing the fuses. There was only 1 x 15amp fuse, on the bottom left corner I believe. I pulled it out, but it wasn't blown! I put it back in, and my horn started working, but only the high pitch one. The low pitch works intermittently, and usually not at all. I will next replace the low pitch horn and see what happens. Bloody horn is $120 (CAN) each for either low or high pitch horn from the dealer. Last edited by Dirk Diggler; 05-01-2018 at 10:45 AM.. |
