Carbon Ceramic disc replacement cost
Similar to other recent threads I have been looking to move from a 340i to an M4 and my dealer has a 1300 mile used car with the CCB upgrade.
Just rang the parts dept for the cost of replacement discs and..... Now I have regained consciousness, the fronts are £2514 each and the rears are £2100 each making a total cost of over £9200 How do they sell these cars, or do people buy them without researching the replacement cost? Stunned is the word. Mike |

Ouch. At that price, I wonder if the discs are prone to being stolen. The only security is the locking wheel nut set, and to a limited extent the tilt sensor. I have had 2 wheels from a previous few month old M5 without triggering the tilt sensor - I believe that they deflated the tyres.
Edit - I see that there are quite a few ceramic discs on ebay! |

Why on earth you'd go to the dealer for discs and pads I've no idea. So many specialists out there for things like this, and I don't mean places like ECP or GFS.
Dealers add on a made up tax. As for replacing them... you'll have got rid long before they'll need replacing and I doubt you'll be tracking it.

It's quite ironic that the race capable brakes are best suited for road use, as using them regularly on track would be prohibitively expensive!

If you have the balls to track an M4 I think you're probably one that can afford the odd replacement bill here and there. I wouldn't say they're best suited for road use though, they're literally designed to resist fade which is where they'd shine through on a track compared to regular steel counterparts. If you get to the point where you're getting brake fade on steel disks on road use then chances are you should be on a track anyways. I push hard every now and again on my favourite routes but haven't come close to fade yet.

I have heard its a common issue caused by not using them for what they are designed, hard and heavy braking! Personally i think CCBs are a completely pointless option on a road car. |

If I was lottery win rich then I’d have them, but anything short of that then I agree they are a bit silly.

I'd say folk who can afford to be replacing CC brakes after heavy track use are running more expensive and serious cars than M4s typically.

CC brakes should never really need replacing in everyday use. Even the standard steel jobs seem to have a long service life: my car has ~13K on it and there's no "lip" on the discs and iDrive reckons there's 100,000 miles use left on the pads too (if you can believe it)!

I have had several Performance shops tell me they are not well suited for road use as they do not work as well until heated up.
