Ditching RFT's on delivery

How about a strategy of putting non run flat tires on from the start and saving the run flats for the last year of a 3 year lease as the vehicle has the be returned with run flats with at least 4/32 tread on them?

I replaced the RFT's on my 2008 E90 335i Sport Suspension with Michelin PS tires after the first few replacements of the RFT's. It made a world of difference in the way the car handled and gripped the road.

I now have a 2012 F30 328i with the Pirelli RFT's. The 3rd day I had the car the tire picked up a screw. BMW wanted me to purchase a new tire. Discount Tire offered to replace it on a manufacturer’s warranty and all I paid for was mounting and balancing.

The new F30 328 doesn’t have anything close to the handling of the E90 335, and I’m thinking it has a lot to do with the tires and wheels. I’ll be looking to go with a wider square setup with Michelin tires just as soon as I find out what sizes/offsets fit the F30. The crappy steering is one thing, but the poor handling has to be these poor tires. I just can’t believe it’s anything but. I didn’t buy a new car to enjoy it less than my old car.

Elk - you have provide me with good info on my posts so I will ask the question. I ordered the staggered 18" wheels on my MY13 M Sport versus the straight 18". What is your opinion on this no cost option? We do get some pot holes in Colorado during the winter so the lower profile on the rear would be a consideration except I will get a second set of same size 18" wheels and mount Nokian Hakk R's for the winter. I have a north facing bob sled run for a driveway plus am a skier so want the winter ice tires. Will run the RFT's until they wear out and get a high performance tire with emphasis on wet handling/stoping after that. Feel this is when tires really can make a difference. Thanks
