Did you check prices on parts at FCP Euro? If you have the ability to DIY, you probably could've saved a decent amount of $.

The time to change my brake pads has arrived. Got the brake system warning notification.
I'm not here to debate if dealerships are expensive or not. I just want to record my experience. Personally, $1,700 doesn't sound too bad to me. Especially with the high inflation rate and gas price at over $5/gal. Anyways, I'll be performing the work myself. Replacing the front brake pads, front rotors, rear brake pads, and sensors. Everything is OEM BMW parts except for the sensors. I bought the parts from Pelican Parts. Never had a bad experience with them. The delivery was delayed but that wasn't their fault. I spent a total of $972.11 on parts. |

FYI for everyone.
The last time I was at my dealer, he pointed me to their "value service" deals BMW now offers. For my RWD 435i they are now showing front rotors/pads/sensors for $511 and $429 for a pads/rotors/sensors. Those rates seem to include labor too since I recently got an oil change and brake flush and I was charged exactly what is on the listing. My indy can't beat that and they don't offer loaners, which is very handy for me. Of course this all assumes you want to stay OEM or OEM equivalent and not do any upgrades to the pads or rotors. Here is the link to find the rates I use. I'm sure its similar nation wide as this program with through BMW and not the dealership themselves. https://www.newboldbmw.com/bmw-value-service.htm The interesting part in this is the SA demonstrated how those rates are not in their system. When someone calls and they use the job ordering software, it still give the old, much higher rates. They have to go in and manually adjust every job order for each Value Service item.

Jeez, these prices are huge. Before it was totaled last month, I changed the brakes in my F10 back in September. For new pads, sensors, discs, & SS lines, it cost around $550 through FCP Euro & forget who I bought the lines from.
Did it all myself. I hope no one's still paying $1700+ at the dealer.

I had to laugh at that one too. The service adviser also tried to convince me the air filter change at $35 was cheaper than what I could do myself. Not sure how getting the filter for $25 and doing it myself in 5 minutes is more expensive...
Not perfect pricing for everything, but some of them are considerably cheaper than what they used to charge and competitive, if not cheaper, than many indy places. For me that's a win since the closest indy is 30+ miles away and they don't offer loaners.

IMO this is BMW trying to drum up more service business to offset the drop in sales due to Covid related problems. BMW market share is up, but sales of 243,000 units is down from 324,000 in 2019.

The Newbold BMW value service offer for my car puts this job at $942, which is awesome. I wish I could take advantage. I looked at my area dealerships and they don't have that same online portal, sadly. I called around, no specials to report. Bummer. |

Eye opening quote for regular shocks. Do these shocks come with palladium based outer coating to deflect attention of enterprising individuals from removing the catalytic converter?

Considering FCP has their great warranty, that $920 will be a one-time expense as your next set of pads and rotors will be free.
