Great, could you explain the process for the swap?
I know what parts is needed but just don't know how to remove old trim.
It would be a great DYI thread.

Much appreciated!!!

Noticed your parts number.
Shouldn't the right cover be part#51117300740 instead of 51117279702?

This is what I got from www.getbmwparts.com

Or maybe its the same part with different part#?

Both parts could be used, the difference between my part n° and the one from getbmw is that mine is complete open and the part n° from getbmw is partially open. The left side is also partially open, so I think you best use the part n° from getbmw if u want both sides look the same. The part I bought by my dealer came with the part n° I posted so maybe I change it myself in a while after some stone chips They cost almost nothing so I don't mind changing them when needed.

Sport trim piece does not fit base bumper

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum, and was interested in this mod. So I got one of these sport trim pieces, but was unable to fit it to my base bumper.

I noticed also that the slits where the clip go into are a bit different on the top of the trim piece, but by removing these the problem was solved.

Next to that, I noticed that in order to let the trim piece fit to my bumper, I should cut away some bumper material??!! I just cannot push it back far enough to make it fit.

Any advice?

Cheers Rut

My car is a (Euro) 318dA base (no lines)
The trim piece has nr 51117300738

I just did the swap today, and it does not fit 100% without some slight mod to the cover. I suggest not to cut/trim the bumper but to trim down the cover instead. I removed the upper 4 clips but heard only 3 was enough. Another member on this forum did the same thing and told me that the cover holds well just with the remaining side and bottom clips. He put some (mounting mastic) on the top to avoid wiggling of the cover.

What is mounting mastic?

Any updates?

Does it fit perfectly? What modifications are needed apart from removing clips from the top of the trim?

Many thanks

Won't be able to take photos now since the covers are installed on the car. It's kinda hard to remove them without risking in breaking one of the clips.

You'll be able to see my car with the cover installed in this thread.

Hey I'm very interested in this mod. One question I had, I noticed that four parts were listed in order to complete this mod. The case and then the silver accent part. Is there any assembly required for those two parts? I was under the impression that I just take the original case off and replace it with this one, which comes with the silver accent. From what I see with these parts though it seems the case and the silver accent come separately. Is there a lot of work involved to put the case and accent together? Also where did you guys order your parts from? I'm thinking of ordering mine from bmwpartsupply.com. Any other recommendations?

Thanks!

I'm thinking of doing this very same mod on my Luxury Line. I wanted saddle brown interior but unfortunately we don't have the Saddle Brown option in the Sport Line hence placed the order for the luxury line.

Now the main thing is, I love the Sport Line bumper and want to get the same look as soon as I pick up the car.

Should it be a SNAP ON fit without any hassles or modifications and will it look like it was this way from the factory?

Here is a last of part numbers I have gathered. Please let me know if any addition is needed. Once again a reminder, I wanna go from the Luxury Line trim to the Sport Line trim.

Close Grid Left: 51117300737
Close Grid Right: 51117300738
Finisher Rod Left: 5117292105
Finisher Rod Right: 5117293106
Finisher Rod Center: 51117279699

I got these part numbers from real oem. If anything more would be needed please let me know.

Monefor,
I tried to update my fogs with the sport cover but didn't fit...it's possible send me some pictures of your adjustments?
My bumper is standard so I'm not sure if it's the same of your car.
Thanks anyway.

Ordered the parts for the sport line fog covers... I just need someone to confirm that the black surround trim simply pulls in and out using force. Which corners would you attack first!

I have read elsewhere that they are held on behind the bumper...

I would appreciate any PM or reply to this!

Looking forward to putting on that sport line trim!

Removed and Replaced Fog Cover Base to Sport line

Guys today I finally replaced my Fog Covers. I have the 320i with Base line trim. So far I replaced the Front Grills with M Performance and added the rear deck spoiler, today the Fog Covers. Below are the pictures.

I had to remove the top 4 clips and use a dremel tool to cut a small piece from the bumper. The result was an OEM fit IMHO. Tell me what you think?

Looks fantastic! Where did you order these from? Also, can you tell me whether this will be a snap on or some mods would be needed for fitting em onto a luxury line?

PS: This is the close grid one right?
