To be honest though and I've said it to several people I've met off here, I don't get the whole 4/6 cyl thing. BMW make on the whole very good engines whatever they are. Several times now while shopping for metal I've compared specs and generally BMW are more powerful, better economy, faster 0-60 and less co2 than their rivals. Might have changed recently but certainly been the case for some time. Be happy with what you have
No I haven't and I take your points. But the whole point of this is: in a dick waving contest, you can make a case for any 3 being the best. None of it makes any sense unless you consider it as good natured teasing.

Who cares how many cylinders you've got anyway?

2 doors good, 4 doors bad.

So there.

Yes totally, they think 6 cylinders is a small economy engine for peasants, even a lot of their vans have a petrol V8 in

LOLz. I criticised the key case, too. Sort of wish I hadn't now, if it's gong to cause offence. But it has to be said, come on, it really is naff (imho). If I did offend, though, then I offer sincere apologies.

As for car comparisons, the BMW 3 Series is a fucking amazing car, irrespective of engine or spec. Personally I feel very lucky that I can afford one, and hope I always can. I've gone from 318i E90 to 320d E90 to 330i E90 to 330d F30, and I can honestly say neither of the 6 cylinder cars were really all that superior, yes the engines are, but in the scheme of things what counts is the way a BMW feels to drive, then of course there are the things that make it better for *you* based on your own needs and tastes - for me, for example, I would much rather have an F30 320d M Sport than a 340i SE.

I've got into a few disputes on this forum over the years - usually because my liberal worldview often clashes with the average political outlook here which is (or was) fairly right-wing - but no matter the topic, it's always a source of regret. Life's too short. It's never worth arguing. We're all here because, let's face it, we spend a questionably large amount of time thinking about our cars.

To settle this thread, what I propose is that the first of the antagonists to emulate this Jack Daniels party trick wins:

I like it. I was extremely amused to see that the fuel pump for Bloodhound SSC is a Cosworth V8 F1 engine

I've frequented plenty of car forums over the years as I'd class myself as a proper petrolhead, however in all my time I have never experienced such 'dick waving' contests as I have on this forum.

In actual fact, the 'I've got a 35d / 30d' & 'you've only got a 20d' comments are both tiring & quite frankly immature at the best of times.

Its the sort of willy waving I would expect on a Corsa forum - 'I've got a bigger exhaust' so mine must be better. Really, I would have expected the conversation on this forum to have been a bit more grown up.

I've got a lovely 320d M Sport, I don't care that its not a 30d or 35d as it does the job I bought it for. So what??!?! Doesn't mean I have to justify why I bought it instead of a 30d or 35d.

I also find it quite funny that most with the larger engined cars talk of monthly finance payments & when they can chop it in for a new one. Well, mine may only be a 20d but I own it, not a finance company.
Hi fella I'm new to this forum as usually I'm busy on BMW bike forums however after selling the s1000rr and going all out to enjoy the 435d I just wanted to say not all of us look at smaller engined m sports through our nose.I can only afford to drive this car with the aid of pcp finance having traded in the 320 m sport.Reason for going for the 435 is speed with comfort hence the sad goodbye to the biking days it was never to smirk at a smaller engined car.

I haven't read all of this thread, its too long.
But, do people really need to make themselves feel happy by stating they have a better car? Is that the only reason you got it, to show off? If that's the case, no amount of bragging will ever fill the void you are trying to fill by being a narcissist.
We all have our reasons to buy what we buy (rent what we rent). I'm better than you threads are pointless and do not contribute anything to a forum. Hell, we all like to show our pride and joy, and this is a great place to show them, but to just show them in order to belittle someone else for having a less powerful or less expensive car is nothing more than baiting an argument.

That being said, I believe that my car is better than everyone else's because its mine. That's my opinion and I respect yours.
