Today, just cruising going maybe 45~50mph, I got the "drive train malfunction, reduced power" or something along those line. Pulled over and scanned for codes and i got two.
"130E11- Inlet camshaft sensor; impluasible signal" and "120408- charge pressure control, shutodown: pressure build-locked".

Did some googling but nothing pertaining the n20/26 but I have a feeling its a faulty camshaft/vanos sensor.

anyone seen this issue?

TIA!

Interesting turn of events for my situation. The dealer that my car has been at for the past 15 months suddenly, and without notice, had my car towed to an impound lot. The towing company just notified me today that I have 15 days to get it or it will be forfeited to them. Interesting this happens now, with no warning. There was an agreement in place that they would call me if it needed to be removed.

First stop tomorrow is to the dealer. Oh the drama.

Interesting - yesterday (also in Central NJ), I was cruising at 65 mph on I-287 and accelerated gently to pass a vehicle and got the dreaded warning for the first time ever on my car (it has 109k miles on the odo). Didn't sense any issues and it went away when I started the car for my evening commute back home. I am going to have my indy scan the codes next week when it goes in for servicing. We'll see what pops up. I wonder if the unusually high temps in NJ yesterday caused a temporary sensor malfunction or something.

Yeah, I was thinking of the added heat yesterday. I clear the codes and hasnt popped up. Baby'd the car for a little bit and then drove it a little hard and no codes so hoping it was just a fluke. Where about in cnj are you located? I'm in E. Brunswick.

Likewise no issues on my evening commute (I did a few harder runs to check). I'm in the Bridgewater area.

Oh its about to get ugly here... I filed complaints with the state AG and the BBB. The bank is also pursuing legal recourse.

The towing company that took the car is demanding 12,500 to release the vehicle from 250 days of storage at 50 a day. I just received notice on Monday that they have it. State law requires notice within 5 days.

Just ironic this happens now. Lots more to the story and I'll likely post a thread about it once it is resolved. I'd like to keep this thread on topic about the case since we are sssooooo close now!

100k miles seems fair enough but 7 years? Hope they can get something better for us.

I agree.

Also, I am surprised that the timing chain replacement at MINI dealer was only $850 (page 10). If it were that cheap for our cars, I would strongly consider doing it early and get it done with.

6 more days...

7 years isn't going to cover it. My 2013 has 106k miles and is 7 years old. Since 2013 and 2014 have the same timing chain, it will need to be longer.

Completely agreed with this! Don't take the MINI settlement anything more than an example. Completely different cars, different circumstances and dollar values.

Okay, was just in a similar situation. 328i N20, 2013 48k miles, California.
I got vanos fault and turbo pressure control fault. Car had CEL and drivetrain malfunction. I ran the codes and saw they relate to SULEV and are covered (assuming thatis what BMW Diagnosis too). I took this opportunity to tell BMW
I heard a loud whine/noise in the engine area, and could hear it when reving more stating I believe it's timing chain related.

Got the car towed to BMW (driving was possible but not worth it). Got to the dealer and I agreed to diagnostic fee. This fee would not be charged if my issue was related to SULEV or extended parts warranty (aka timing chain).

Long story short, got my Vanos replaced and didn't pay a penny. (would have done that job myself, but changing the vanos on my year you need to open the VC and be top dead center, which I wasn't comfortable with as I don't have the correct tools.

They didn't fix anything with my timing. Was bummed about this, but I got it in writing. Was a $1500 fix covered under SULEV Warranty.

So, chances are you'll be covered, otherwise you're out a $200-$300 diagnostic fee and a tow. I only went through with this because my 7y/70k was expiring in a week and I wanted to see if I could squeeze the timing chain out of them.

Give BMW service center near you a call and see if they have any insight. Check if your faults would be covered under SULEV or extended parts warranty. Also, see if you can fix yourself first.

One more question if anyone can clarify. With that MINI settlement, did the extended warranty offer parts/labor to proactively replace the TC assembly? Or just the engine in case of failures related to the TC? I’m assuming it’s the latter, just wasn’t sure.

Thanks! I'm going to reach out to a tech at a bmw I know. I'll keep you posted!

Could you send me a picture of the work order by any chance? Just curious of the actual work done. PM me for my number.
