I'd like to share my story here with ambient light upgrade I did.
I've changed the light bars that are integrated in the trim and also LED modules. I've found on one Russian forum that BMW changed the modules (new part number) and apparently they did some re-design to the light bars (even though the part number remained the same) for LCI models. So long story short, after couple of hours of careful prying and cutting I was able to put it all back together and the difference is significant. I'll try to make some pictures and share the result. But this is definitely one of the jobs that one will never want to repeat... |

I thought it had been determined that the change was simply a lower value resistor which increased the current and thus light output between early and later modules.
In any case my very early ‘15 (sept 14 build date) has ambient lighting quite powerful enough to for me at max brightness. |

Differences between pre-LCI and LCI are not just in the LED module. As Vortex8 sad, the optical conductor thing is different, it has same part number and it looks exactly the same as old ones when you compare them hand by hand but they scatter light differently. So there are two things one need to do, to have LCI ambient light power:
1. LED modules (personally i didn't bother to play with resistor and just bought LCI ones) (new part number) 2. new "LCI" optical fiber conductor (same part number but they are different now) Only when you change two of these you will have good brightness, changing just one will not do the job. Trust me I tested it couple of weeks ago In my case (2014 f31): Optical conductor door front upper right 63319239408 Optical conductor, door front upper left 63319239409 Optical conductor, door rear upper right 63319239410 Optical conductor, door rear upper left 63319239411 new LED module 63 31 9 353 133 4 pcs. And you have factory looking ambient lightning, not some Opel like stripes ...oh keep in mind that front footwell light gonna be the same weak light |

Really nice. Agreed on the light guide stripes.
Do they match up nicely with an LCI illuminated ac control panel? I just installed the panel and controls from a 2018 f80 and they seem balanced in intensity now between doors and dash. |

Parts from my local BMW dealer.
Yes I've done it myself, it's pretty simple and takes about... 10 minutes per door or less. |

U have photos in my previous post. It's a lot brighter then factory setup. If You have pre-lci car then You know door card ambient lights are barely noticeable.
Cost me about $180. Oh and... I also coded "AMBIENTE_NACHFUEHRUNG" in FEM_BODY so I have ambient lighting controlled independent from Dimmer Switch Last edited by mrrocky; 11-05-2019 at 07:37 AM.. |

Just pry it out gently starting at one end (nr 1 on pic) and it will slide trough hole on second end where it is connected to the LED module on other side of door card (nr 2 on pic).
I used trim remowal tool but even flathead screwdrivel will work for that |

I wonder if the F32 has a better one out of the gate. Mine aren't dim at all.

Really? My car had prefacelift tail lights. According to Wiki F32 received LCI in 2018.

You are right, totally missed that f32 have different facelift time frame, however I can see in ETC that You have different optical conductor and new led modules from factory... so ye it looks like Your version is already done properly

@mrrocky did you have to remove the door panels entirely or can you swap the lighting parts over without disassembling the door at all? I've been meaning to go the plastic strip diffuser route, but i like your way of OEM lights much better. Parts come out to ~160€ here in Germany so it's an okay price if they're significantly brighter. Gonna swap in the B pillar lights and AC trim as well because more lights = more better
Thanks for the part numbers and guide! |

Vesther LED modules are mounted on the other side of the panel so yes, you need to remove them
some visual instructions Remember to code "ambiente_nachfuehrung" in fem_body so you can turn up the brightness in idrive |
