BMW G20 Slowness

Does anyone else think BMW is losing a bunch of market share by taking so long to reveal the G20? Audi/Mercedes already have their next gen competitors revealed, which I'm seriously considering because there is no equivalent BMW option available.

I want my next car to be a BMW, but they're making it difficult...
Everybody wants a new body so I don't doubt that.

It's on the same 7-year cycle as almost all other BMWs are and have been.

You can probably find the same complaints about F30 posted in 2010.

They're not going to sell them until mid 2018 as a 2019 model, so there's no reason for them to reveal them.

Questions is: Will the G chassis be as exciting as we're all hoping it "should" be? Or will we be best to hold off until mid-late production to reap the rewards of LCI changes, etc? Always a toss up with first year, new model cars.

The 440 Sept 2017 sales was up 60% over the 435 Sept 2016 numbers. New or newer always does well but its no longer the 1950 early 1960's were cars get new sheet metal every year.

MB/Audi are new now 3 will be new late next year.

I think we can look at the G30 for that answer. I don't think anyone would call it a game changer vs. the F10. It's clearly an evolution of the last model. It's also clear that a lot of folk on here are hoping that the G20 will turn back the clock and end up more like the E46, or at least the E90. Enthusiasts may not be thrilled with the F30, but BMW.s have sold well world-wide (sales were down in the US last month, up Worldwide). In the US, BMW has an SUV problem, not a sedan problem as SUV's rule this market (sigh).

Enthusiasts are disappointed with the 3 series and have been for a while. A lot of us buy them anyway, and like them well enough as none of the competitors are exactly what many of us want either, but BMW's strategy is clearly global and they have not failed on their global strategy. Based on that and the new 5, I don't expect a radical change for the G20.

The W205 C-Class is not much more than 2 years younger than the F30, I see it as the same generation of car as the F30.
The W204 C-Class for sure is not even close to the level of the F30.

As for the new A4, yes it is new, but I would still prefer an F30, in fact I am taking delivery of my new F30 in a couple of weeks, and the A4 was not even considered.
The W205 however was in the running, and it was close, but in the end I chose the F30.

And I am actually happy that I could get another car from the F30 series (had an F32 before) before the G20 was launched.

losing market share? Haha, no. All I see day in and day out are F30's, en masse, constantly, BMW's everywhere. Maybe its just L.A., but just anecdotally speaking, for every A4 on the road, I feel like I see 5 F30's.

I admit I was thrown off when I was around Michigan and saw mostly American cars on the road.

Weird, I'm in the area too and don't see as many F30's compared to other cars. It's definitely not 5 F30s for every A4.

I always thought that you see more of the car you're driving, but so far the F30 has been the exception for me. That's not to say it's not a popular model, because it is.

I've noticed more older gen 3 series, with most of the newer BMWs being 5 series, M cars, and X series.

I think many BMW enthusiasts are going for older cars or slightly up market. Those looking for new cars in the F30 price range today who aren't already BMW enthusiasts will be giving other brands a good look.

As they should. So many good cars on the market these days. Even those looking to move 'down market' out of the luxury sector, so many good cars that can be had for cheap. I was visiting friends in northern CA sacramento area this weekend and my buddy's wife has a 2016 Accord sport, the 4 banger with the CVT and that is beyond competent daily driver. Better looking than many previous Accords and I also just read a C&D review about the Accord 2.0T that is coming out or is out, the 2018... Really good. If I can't get into another BMW or similar for the low $300 range again when this lease is up I may very well be moving downmarket as well. Something about this 2 young kids in daycare/preschool and living in Los Angeles that is just breaking me right now and making me look downstream. Although, if we luck out on a good LAUSD school for kindergarten in a year and save that stack of cash every month, I may be able to stay in the rattle trap with the fancy badge.

This is also true here in Toronto.

I can't cite to ratios, so I don't know about 5/1, but I think there's 10-12 F30s in my neighborhood. My prior car was a Lexus IS250--there were *maybe* 3 of those, of ANY generation, while I owned mine, in the same neighborhood. I don't keep as close track of A4s, but I do not think there's as many.

BMW needs to focus on X3 first. I am a CA and I see more people come in looking at X1 and X3 over 3 series.

I see this as well in terms of older 5's and 3's around here but I also have to say that lots of people in this area have Audi, MB, BMW along with other luxury brands just as much.

Do either of you drive that all blacked out BMW near the Doylestown area? I commute though there daily and 6/10 days, I pass it. Just curious as I like the look they achieved plus they seem to drive normally. Putting two and two together here, no? Would be funny as hell if it was you.

DAMN! There's only one BMW in my neighborhood and it's mine, all mine muahahahahahaha All joking aside, I think there "might" be one other in my development but then again, there's only about 40-50 homes in total so that's a small poll that just got us nowhere. Glad I could help!
