I can't imagine why. They get wet every time it rains, and there's nothing on them that wiping them would remove.

Your ultimate goal should to deprive yourself the ability to see while driving at night, so yes...never wash them.

On the note of what not to do I did hear you should avoid applying wax to them...not sure if it's accurate...

Don't clean with any cleaners with ammonia in as they yellow them.
