Hello,

When braking (not harsh) from around 40km/h and coming near to a stop, the car makes a clunk noise from the front side. It can be also felt physically inside the cabin. What can it be ?
Thanks.

420d xdrive 2015, Automatic, N47T engine with 65.000 km.

I think it could be a number of things, but I'd start making sure my caliper bracket was on tight, and the wheels too.

Sometimes pads and get loose or hang up and cause noise...take apart, clean and lubricate, reassemble.

Good luck!

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I will point this out to the dealer. It's a really struggle with this issue. Been to 2 official BMW dealers and could not figure it out. However, the 3rd one, found a play in the flange that goes into the differential case. Hope it will fix the issue as this will cost me around 650 euro.
I'm attaching a photo of the flange.

Changed the flange and nothing. Lost 650 euro. Can it the front differential?

I'm afraid to guess and have you waste more money! That's really what a 'good' mechanic should be able to do having the car.

Did they check front suspension, where you heard the noise from? I'm not familiar with the parts down there you, but on an older e46, I might have guessed the usual control arm bushing...maybe play in a ball joint. Those are easily inspected, tested, by a mechanic that knows what they're doing. If you have really large channel lock pliers, you can squeeze ball joints from the top and bottom and see if they move. See if you have cracked bushings.

Search for well-recommended mechanics is the best advice I can offer.

You can look yourself and save some money...maybe? A good flashlight can make you feel like a genius.

Dealer said they checked everything… As I'm not a pro in this stuff, I don't know what to say. For me this sounds and feels like an issue. Bmw mystery…
