Interim oil change on i-drive

Evening chaps,

So I've made my mind up that I'll be putting my 320d in for an interim oil change at the dealers as I'm not fond of the 2 year 18k mile service interval. The car will probably be in long term ownership & I want to have peace of mind that the engine will have regular oil changes.

I've read that some dealers have updated the service history on the i-drive to reflect an interim oil change but it hasn't impacted the scheduled servicing indicator. I quite like the idea of this so that the car reflects a good history on its i-drive but my preferred dealer advises that this can't be done....

Any ideas how this can be achieved or is it simply a case of keeping the receipt (which I'll do anyhow)?

Cheers.

It's not 18k between every oil change, my first was due at under 15k, and as soon as it was done the car was showing 10k to next service!

If your dealer says it can't be done, then ask them to phone Halliwell Jones in Llandudno, who will hopefully be able to explain to them how they have managed to do this for me at my request at 10k and 29k miles as interims, without resetting the 'miles to go'.

my independent carried out an interim oil change at 10k without resetting the service countdown. they logged the oil change on BMW s online service records portal and simply did not reset the counter on the car.
the interim service shows on the i drive now

Thanks for your responses.

Do most people think its good practice to carry out an interim oil change? My preferred dealership are suggesting it isn't necessary.
