High mileage f30, f31 XI's

Hey fellas, after owning 6 different BMW's, I'm looking at buying a used 2014, 2015 f31 328xi M Sport wagon. Most of the ones I find in my price range have around 50k and up. I'm just wondering what the most common mileage people get before major engine problems start happening on f3x xi engines, transfer cases, timing chains, etc..... I know it all depends on maintenance, and all cars, and the way they maintain them are different. Thanks in advance!

See this thread for a summary of what owners here have seen in maintenance/repairs (TL;DR: not much, these cars are pretty reliable): https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1773502

Also search for threads on the timing chain issue on N20 engines (pre-2016). There are enough threads on that topic to get educated about the issue.

I would highly recommend an F31 with a build date of 04/15 or later.

$50K and up??!! I know the used car market is crazy now, but I bought my '14 F30 in 2015 with 5,400 miles on it for $41,000.

Sounds like you prefer the gas version, but I gotta say if you're planning on putting many miles on an F31 I'd go with the 328d XDrive and find one with the Msport options. My 4 cylinder turbo diesel has been great on trips into the mountains where the torques really shine. Better mileage. 8 speed auto has been good--not a stick but no choice there.

Heres a decent example:

I would LOVE to find a diesel as I already own a 535d M Sport. The wagon I hope to buy is an M Sport. It's hard to find diesel M Sports.

Not sure exactly what your budget is, but I picked up my CPO 2018 330i for $30.6k in May and it had 14k miles. Mine is also very well equipped. I really wanted a wagon, but finding one with a similar spec to my F30 would be hard and on top of that, probably north of $10k more. No thanks. I miss the extra trunk space of my old E39 5 Series Wagon, but I'm pretty happy with the car.

my 2012 F31 320d N47 184bhp has 194k miles and still going strong.
At 120k I had to replace the turbo and replace timing chain for peace of mind, but that was the only problem the car had, hope there will be no other problem
Diesels are made for long journey, so as long as they are maintained right, you should be fine.
