Correct me if I am wrong but the only extra step with the m3 plugs is you have to adjust the gap
Yes you should always check the gap of plugs. I believe mine were gapped to 0.03" (0.7mm), which is the stock M3 gap. I left it at that, but I can see how 0.02" would be better in the highest tuning/boosting range.

What would you estimate the amount of labor time to do something like this on the N20? I may have the shop that did my tune and is installed my FMIC next month do this at the time same time.

With the right tools (which they should have) I don't think more than 1 hour. Took me 2 because I pulled off all the trim covering the back part of the engine for access to plug 4. But as the YouTube shows it's not necessary.

Does anyone have these with the BMS Stage 1? Installing it soon and contemplating if it would be wise to do these plugs at the same time.
Yes, I'm using a JB4

Sorry to bring back an old thread. I was thinking to do this change since I'm planning to go stage 2 soon but found this on BM3's wiki:

Quote:
NOTE: S55 OEM plugs are highly prone to cracking even on stock vehicles. Some have used them in the past on their N55 motors without realizing the heat range is identical and they're in fact of worse quality than N55 OEM plugs. We don't suggest using the S55 OEM plugs when tuning your motors and the NGK SILZKBR8D8S (97506) have been found to be far better.
https://bootmod3.atlassian.net/wiki/...+and+which+gap

Doesn't sound like the M3/M4 plugs should be used. Are N20 flex plugs (SILZKBR9F8S) needed/recommended for N20/N26 FBO?

That's all you need.

Yup! They're typically standard on N20s nowadays. I still had Bosch plugs when I swapped but I also had about 45k on them, so NBD.

The flex fuel plugs kill me honestly. I've seen this part number but not even NGK refers to them as "...BR8F8S". You can't find them on their site or in the catalog. So if they do exist, they exist under a different part number and someone just assumed they would be an "F".

Thought about upgrading to S55 plugs but decided against it. The N20 (ones linked by Bunkerj) plugs are used in the last gen M5 and M6. Good enough for me.

I was starting to get hesitation a little after 60k on the first set of plugs, swapped them out per BMW interval and viola, a much smoother powerband and no hesitation to speak of. I'm runnnig 21lbs of boost on JB+.

Mine were swapped at 33k (according to the service history) and then I swapped them at about 80k.

Unfortunately I don't have my records going back so far, but I guess it's safe to assume mine were changed around then, too. I thought the interval was 60000 miles, turns out it is 60000 kilometers, so that makes perfect sense.

If you bought it from a BMW dealer they should have it, unless the previous owner didn't service it there.

Yeah I've been tempted to see if I can woo my local service department to run my VIN for the records, I bought the car from CarMax so they didn't provide me with much of anything.

They shouldn't have any issue providing you with them. I just asked my SA via email and my next one had it attached.

I've explained that a lot, trust me. Lol. People see that they're putting in M3/M4 plugs and think they're better.

SILZKBR8D8S are the plugs you want from NGK.

Just ordered mine as well.

This consistent with BM3's own advice which I received and as others have noted.
