It is a little frustrating and does affect the buying experience, but I'd rather just get on with life, and enjoy my new car.
I'm beginning to think this way to be honest mate. I think the quality of the repair will be the deciding factor though. Had it been elsewhere on the car, IE, not in plain sight every time you walk up to it, I think I may have been less concerned.

Re damage in transit - I think you're right....

NISFAN - now that would be nice but unfortunately, not an option from in the UK I believe.
It's sadly not a standard option, but in these circumstances......

Are you sure your dealer is not a little low on M car sales this year? Selling 4 to one customer takes the biscuit.

Sounds crazy, but I bet all parties involved benefit from this. 3 mint M cars on approved used, 3 more 'sales', 3 more M units produced in Germany, etc.

I thought my dealership were being especially good to me when my car was damaged in their care and they quickly offered to replace it. When the dust settled, they said it wasn't a big deal, another car on their new sales books, another mint condition car on AUC sales, and a happy customer. Oh and mileage put on an a brand new unsold M6 (loan car whilst waiting for mine) which allowed them to sell under AUC at a lower (more market friendly) price.

A bit different for Smee I would think but from what I've read on this, you're right, you can pick up from the welt but you need to re-import the car and re-register it when it gets to the UK. You also need to pay tax on it in the country of pickup and then claim that back once in the UK and then pay the import duty over here. Warranty from BMW AG is only 1 year. It's 3 years from BMW uk so that is affected as well.

Its all a bit of a headache to do and although we, as the relevant minority, talk about it on here, the truth is that its actually not a service that is in that much of a demand from the UK.

When the US guys do a factory pickup, they pay for the privilege and again, have to re-register the car when it gets to the US.

All a bit to much of a ball ache for Mr Rukka but maybe Mr Smee has more time/money/help/influence on his hands....

Exactly this - It's really not an issue to the dealer and he has told me as such. Just like you said, he's smashing his targets for M sales. The first M4 I rejected has been passed on and re-sold at another dealership. Different franchise altogether. I watched it crop up on AUC and sell within a week. Someone is happy with it and if they have bought it on the overly inflated APR of used, then its a win-win for BMW.

Part of me says fuck it and just drive this one until the new one arrives. I get to use their tyres and put 3k miles on it, stone chip it etc and then just hand it back for another new one. Win-win for me. Its not like I'm in a 1 series loaner for 3 months (nothing agains 1 Series before anyone starts)

Fucking ace really if you get to drive this one for three months and hammer the tyres then just give it back for a new one. They made the mess up so if it's not mint reject and try again. At least you can get a feel of this car and you dont need to worry too much about cleaning it as you might do your own.

If when my car was in for work they gave me a brand new 340 for a few weeks I'd be in no rush to give it back!

Part of me thinks like this but the other part can't really settle as its "not mine".

It's like if you borrow something you always take extra care with it and I feel a bit this way with the current M knowing it will go back eventually. Not saying I would trash my own car or take less care - hard to explain . . . . .

I had a 6" scratch on the door at collection. They repainted it and gave me the option to reject. I could not tell at all so took the car. I got them to pay for a full detail as compensation and fit all my M Performance parts for free and now the paintwork looks stunning.

I would give them the chance to paint it before rejecting again.

Never read anything quite like this..... but think I'd probably accept the repair as well as long as it's done to a high standard...

The'll be giving you your own personal m4 production line at the factory if this carries on.

Thinking about it if you have the chance to say "look, give me another £500 to give to a detailer then we are sorted"

If the repair is decent I would be inclined to just take it and get on with enjoying it. You are paying good money and have an expectation of it being right but plenty of cars are rectified before reaching the dealers and most would never know.

My new 340i was mullered by a hailstorm two weeks after collection so they never stay perfect for long

Wow, had no idea of your problems until seeing this post.
As has been said, the previous cars shouldn't have passed QC from the factory.

If it was me, I'd ask them to agree to cover the cost of a full detail (including coating) regardless of how good their repair efforts are. Realistically, they're going to be going all out for an invisible paint job.
Even if it's not OCD perfect, you can be consoled in knowing the detailing will take care of it no matter how good or bad their paint job is.

So your end result will be a perfect ceramic finish FOC for you.

That's got to be a winner

Jesus this is unreal!!

I’d see what the repair is like first, I washed mine the other day and 3,000 miles in there’s a few stone chips at the front, it’s gonna happen but I wouldn’t be happy accepting a brand new car with damage!!

Rukka, this is getting silly
I hope that they do a decent job on the chips. And a detailer should be able to improve on whatever they do
My new 440i came with some obvious scratches on the rear, and a decent size scuff on the front bumper, probably inflicted by the dealer's own sponge monkeys - who knows? I took the car because there had been delays and I'd waited long enough. They painted and polished them at the dealers and then I paid a detailer to do his magic
I wish you all the best this time around

No offence, but are you sure you’re not just being too fussy? Your ocd must be off the scale if you can’t live with two tiny white dots on the bonnet and a failed glove box that will be fixed and as good as new...

No mate. I don't think I am.

If you went into the Apple shop to buy a new iPhone X and the salesman took it out of the box and there was a scratch on the screen would you buy it? It will probably get scratched anyway in a few weeks won't it? No you wouldn't and the shop wouldn't expect you to.

Just for that few minutes when you collect a new car, I want it to be "new". Not repaired, not touched up, not with faults.

If I'd wanted those things I'd have bought a used one and accepted it based on me inspecting it and accepting it as it stood and at a second hand price point.

When it comes to pride and joy... you can be as fussy as you want it like in my opinion!

especially when parting with your monies on cars such as M ones.

Its good that you can still keep the current one until your new one arrives. Imagine they gave you a 2 series Active Tourer to use instead ha!

The screen is the fundamental part of the iPhone X, two white dots on the bonnet of a car isn’t... there are also 100’s of identical ones out the back to swap it with.

I know you want the car to be perfect, I get that, but it sounds like you’re going over it all in such minute detail that you’re always going to find a mark somewhere.
