Looks completely bonkers and judging by this video totally impractical and accident waiting to happen. How did it pass safety assessments? How long before Tesla will get sued for this design?

It's all drive-by-wire stuff these days so I can't see a problem with it. Most people now passing their test at 17 would have more control using an Xbox or PS5 controller than a steering wheel.

As for the steering wheel of the Tesla, I could achieve the same thing by taking a angle grinder to the wheel of the model 3 I have on the fleet. That wheel is obviously musk making his Knight rider wet dream a reality. I wonder what crazy shit he will come out with next. |

I think its pretty cool personally… and no one in the real world feeds the steering wheel!
Would make getting in and out of the car much easier…. And minimise any visual obstruction to the cars which have a driver speedo. I love the audi flat bottom wheel - this is just the next iteration of that… and once autonomous driving is here would make something that shape easier to recess back into the dashboard. |

You clearly haven't seen the old biddies in my area who can't see over the steering wheel drive

In the grand scheme of Tesla features you have to think that this style steering wheel is a lot safer than fanboys intentionally taking a nap while using auto pilot.

"The craziest part to me is that some early owners and people who had access to driving the car and said that they had issues with the steering wheel don’t want to go public about it, for fear of Tesla fans going after them. This is a real problem that is corrupting the feedback loop." |

Ha ha, I'm interested, what part of your body would you put in the area where the top of the steering wheel is/was to make getting in and out the car easier? I cant work that one out! |

I don't really see what is particularly radical about that... Or what the fuss is about (other than "change")...
As for the "in control" aspects, I do not think I have seen a racing car in 10 years with a round steering wheel... I suppose, as somebody else mentioned, you'd struggle to do the wheel-shuffle thing in the driving test..

A bit like the flat bottom audi wheel - slimmer lower profile easier to get your legs to the pedal - except with this wheel if you dont straigten up the steering wheel when you park its stil easier to get in and out.

Because I swap between cars and one is round and the other isnt, I find I spend the first 20 mins in the Audi cursing the flat bit, the first time I park the flat bit will be nowhere near the bottom etc. I just get used to it and then go back to driving the Mini!

It's a hard no from me, no chance I could eat a sandwich whilst steering with my knees using that set up!
I'm just kidding....

Gotta smile at the combination of the high tech instrumentation and beige velour

I know, makes me smile. So 1970s - reminiscent of my old man's Hillman Avenger.

Definitely don't like that!
What is wrong with a simple round wheel?
