Stop "kick to open" tailgate functionality
Hi guys, I'm wondering if it's possible to stop forever, code out, or something to the "kick to open" tailgate on my F36.
The few times that I tried to used it didn't work, but always is opening or closing when I'm taking stuff out of the trunk, or washing the car, or putting the cover on my car. any ideas? Thanks |

For washing the car, the key stays in the car and the tailgate will stay shut

Or.... simply learn how to use it?

Kick to open is neat when you get it down but it's annoying when you're trying to grab something out and accidentally trigger it.

I had mine randomly open while in the garage and smacked right into the metal door. I wish I could turn it off too.
I have a wagon so it's more of an issue I guess than a sedan.

The Sedan (3 Series) does not have an automatic tailgate.

But it still has kick to open if you have Comfort Access.

@skyhigh hahahah its not about how use, is about that activate when it shouldnt, like while i washing my car, or covering the car, in those moments there is no "kick" movement that should trigger the opening/closing the tailgate. Lastnight actually opened the tailgate while i was standing next to the trunk

Well, it all comes down again to learning how to use it AND troubleshooting it. Let's break it down:
- It is normal for "Comfort Access" sensors to respond when washing the car. My car locks and unlocks as crazy. Therefore - put the key in the car or away from the car when washing - problem solved! That's what all of us do. I leave the key 5 meters away from the car when washing and it works like a charm. Yours is not an implant under your skin, is it? - It should not open when there are simply obstacles around/under or out of the blue as you describe! If this happens - go have it checked! Mine has never done that unprovoked! In both cases - disabling is not the solution.

Interesting. With my last two 3 series, 2012 and 2016, the "kick" to open trunk worked better with the 2016 than the 2012. The "kick" needs to be distinct and purposeful for BMW's system to work as expected.
In my 2018 Audi S4, the "kick" to open trunk works beautifully every time, and only requires a light "kick" to open. Audi wins that little tech. However, this S4 does not integrate driver and machine like my 2016 340i Msport did, especially the connection between the engine and transmission. Little things like a kick to open trunk are nice additions, but overall I'm more interested in how well a "sport sedan" connects with the driver for the best driving experience. |

I love how you went from "I was not aware of that" to providing expert advice in two posts. Winking aside, there are many features on these cars that some people love while others hate. For many features, they can be turned on or off or changed via parameter settings in iDrive. For others, coding is required. One thing I've learned from this forum is that we are all different. For me, the kick feature works perfectly each and every time. If I didn't like it, I'd want to turn it off too. |

All I am saying is:
- Get to know it And - Troubleshoot it before you judge it. If you still dislike it - disable it. But not in advance of the two actions above. Apart from that - not being familiar with a different BMW model does not make me a stranger to the function in general Works great on my F36, which coincidentally is what the op drives and is complaining about
