I think the Merc looks fugly. The Audi is okay but has not changed much and well it is an Audi. The BMW has the best body, lines, curves and design... character... As for the steering you can specify the variable sport steering... it is a bit vague to begin with. You feel the car slipping in your stomach before you notice you are in a drift or losing grip but.. the more you drive it the more it becomes second nature and you adapt to it... after a month or two you won't notice it and will enjoy the car. The trouble with some of these reviews is that they are too short term. There are a handful of long term reviews rather than first impressions. I can't help but wonder if they would have felt the same having used it as a daily driver for a year.

Many steerings are now so over servoed that they lack feel. Someone said it was due to complaints from old men. I have traditionally enjoyed a heavier steering but the variable steering is not the worse by a long shot.

No, the M4 competes against the C63 and RS5 (when it arrives)

BMW have created a sub M brand to compete with Audi's S variants and the new lower powered 43AMG models but don't have a model in this sector yet, you see the gap in the pricing structure 42k 440i to 60k M4 the S5/43 are 47k

Move up one model line and:

The G30 5er gets the M550i which is a direct competitor to the E43 and S6, the M5 will be placed against the E63 and RS6 as always.
