So I just had M Brakes installed on my 2014 328i. I was told that I should have gone with the Stop Tech big brakes because the M breaks have a soft pedal feel. Does anyone have any feed back on this?

StopTech brakes are among the better braking systems you can buy. They have been used on dedicated track-cars for years.

M Performance brakes are the same brakes available on a 3 or 4-Series as a $650 option with the only difference being slots/dimples on the rotors and choice in color.

M Brakes don't have the slotted and dimpled rotors. Those are on the M Performance BBK.

I had the 2wheel StopTech kit on my E46 but with the F30 I would go with M Perf BBK because of the coding which take advantage of the four wheel brake upgrade (ASC, DSC, ABD, etc). It would be a struggle to get the same coding done with the StopTech kit.

And yes all these systems are tied into and affect the brake system.

I think FC4 was referring to the M performance Brakes. Commonly, when people say "M", it kind of doesn't equal to M sport.

You can help eliminate the spongey feel with braided hoses such as those made by Goodridge or HEL. And if that's not good enough, then ditch the current pads for whatever is recomended in this part of the forum - perhaps some Porterfield R4S front and rear. Also benefit from reduced pad dust build up on rims being ceramic with these.

I've had the Brakes on for a few weeks now and Auto X event for January went great. the Breaks have absolutely no spongy feeling at all. They stopped on a dime every time. I think I will change out the hoses to Braded ones here in the next month before I do the HPDE event coming up.

But also according to Turner Motorsport you can just throw in the StopTech pads into your existing M or M Performance 4-piston brake calipers if you feel the M Performance pads lack feel or are spongey.

I find that pedal feel is most determined by brake pad compound. Brake hose reinforcing technology has help reduce ballooning in rubber lines, so a set of stainless lines can help but have much less effect than they used to. Get yourself a high-performance pad with good low-temperature bite and you'll be all set.

Assuming your car, like mine, is an M Sport body derivation with the M Sport brake options with the 370mm discs, then

F: AP1609
R: AP1656

But please double check on realoem.com and cross reference via Porterfield's website. I did, for you, cross referenced myself and it checked out, but I don't know your car details. If your front pad part number is 34116859282, then I'm confident I'm correct.

So I ran the 328i at COTA this past weekend. I have no complaints with the M Performance Brakes. No spongy feeling at all, even coming down from 130+ along the back stretch into turn 12. I would like some Ceramic pads for next time though.

are your front rotors drilled and slotted? or dimpled and slotted?

have you encountered any humming/buzzing noise from your front wheels?

The spongy brake pedal feeling with M Perf brakes is coming from people who mechnically install the kit but do not code the car. I installed my own M Perf kit and drove the car post-install but pre-code, and the pedal definitely felt "off". Too much travel, smooshy. Coded the car and it firmed up to stock/original feeling. This was with stoptech stainless lines installed.
