Different F30 air filters?

Hello! I've got a 2014 335

I just changed my engine air filter and noticed the one I took out looked different with more protection?

The new one I ordered was confirmed to be correct for my car and the employee of FCPeuro asked if my car had the M-sport?

I dont know what that has to do with an air filter?

Please advise on what I should do lol, on one hand I like the extra filter, but on the other idk if it's "needed"

Thank you for your guy'z help

Its a standard base filter for the M-Sport. Might be a higher level available but it will fit fine.

The extra grey material is a snow screen.

Seeing as how you're in FL, the new filter without it shouldn't be an issue.

I always thought that was for cars with the M Performance intake. I believe those are mislabeled as M Sport air filters although they are actually M Performance air filters. Some M Performance suspension kits are also mislabeled as M Sport suspension.

If you don't have the MPPK/MPPSK, return the part for the other non-"MSport" version. Every N55 gets the same filter except for M Performance cars. Although it's unlikely, it's possible the one you got has a different paper element which relies on the grey filter for and using just the paper filter would be insufficient.

The filters are the same length & width. Overall height with the extra activated carbon layer is 46.3 mm vs. 37.3 mm without it.

Air filter element - BMW part # 13717602643 = Mahle LX 2076/1

For vehicles with M Sports package:
Air filter element - BMW part # 13718616909 = Mahle LX 2076/3

Sorry to revive a dead thread. Just changed my filter today and noticed the extra gray material as well. Anyone know if this will hinder performance in any way?

Considering that is is meant for cars with the M Sports package, if it fits properly in your air box I'd say you'll be fine with it.

Good to know! Thanks for the input. So I guess the consensus is that a bit of power is lost but for a street car, this is negligible.

Try the aFe Pro Dry filter. It's a lifetime filter that's reusable. It has less restrictive flow for better performance. About $70-75. Never use an oiled filter because it can gunk up the expensive sensors in your intake system
