Soft-Close on F30
Has anyone installed softclose doors on an F30? Bimmertech offer a retrofit package but for LHD vehicles only (why it's relevant I have no idea). I'm in the UK so interested in RHD kit/parts and installation probs.
Please feel free to move this thread to somewhere better! |

Here's a bone for ya, OP. I imagine you could make it work, but don't know much about RH vs LH. I used this same video to learn how to change my actuator!

I assume you can buy the softclose locks from a dealer and running power to them should be easy enough. I want to know why bimmertech says it's LHD only and does anyone know if they're OEM parts and if so the part numbers?
I literally know nothing about the parts or how they work so i'll have to watch the bimmertech video again (been about 3 years!) |

My X5 liftgate closes with a bang as well. It is aligned very well and I love how fast it is, though, so I think that's how it's supposed to be.

No! My relative has a 2016 S320 with factory soft closing, he keeps complaining his wife slamming the door too hard to damage the mechanism. One day, she forgot to "soft close" the door and tried to slow down the closing process by putting her hand between the door and the car, but failed to slow it down and her thumb was caught in between, the door shut tightly by itself with her thumb in it, she has to go to emergency room for stitches with a piece of fresh detached.

Are/were you not concerned that you are basically invalidating it?

I actually did have an issue with a mount for the interior door pull cable breaking off of the soft close assembly within the past month. A metal washer and some super glue fixed that (since Bimmertech wanted $150 for a new assembly since the 1yr warranty had JUST expired). |

Warranty does not work like that I'm afraid.
A warranty coverage of a defect anywhere in the electrical system of the car may be denied if proven that you have modified any part of it. And it will be extremely easy to prove that, once someone closes the door...

Might as well live your life in a bubble if you're that afraid of everything. Heck, just changing your speakers or amp would void your warranty with that view.

It has nothing to do with fear - it is reality.
So tuning your engine only invalidates the warranty on the ECU itself, since you didn't touch anything else? Be glad you obviously don't have experience with it. A manufacturer would and will use anything to get rid of cost and responsibility. As cool thing soft-close is, I would not take a chance with that within the warranty period. Let it be just me.

Anybody else notice the article says the door was about a foot ajar? Call me crazy, but I'd say that's a bit of an exaggeration. I don't think the auto close would engage with the door open that far.
