F31 oem MP diffuser install, LCI heat shield in way

Howdy folks, I have an OEM M Performance rear diffuser enroute and was reading up on the install. From what I gather, the pre-LCI job is a quick 10-15 minute affair whereas the LCI install requires the bumper to be removed.

I peeked under the rear bumper of my 2019 F31 and saw the heat shield in the way. Has anyone simply bent it just enough to be able to complete the job or the rear bumper hasto come off?

Holla atcha boy cuhhhh!

Hrm, my '17 LCI F31 didn't have any issues installing an ebay replica m-perf diffuser. Does only the gasser have the heat shield?

No need to remove anything. Just squeeze your hand in there to press the tabs, or you can use a flathead screwdriver. I have an OEM piece manufactured in 2012 (I think) and was able to install it on my 2016 340i without removing the bumper a couple times now.

Thanks for the info fellas. I'm adding a photo of the heatshield on my 2019 F31 so hopefully this is not part of LCI rev. 2 or something of that nature!

I don't see any reason why you couldn't just bend it out of the way, install the diffuser, bend it back up into position and attach it again.

I'll see what a brotha can do once it touches down. Looks like I can just remove whatever nuts are securing the heatshield down and move it out of the way. As long as I am not bending/creasing the aluminum heatshield, we good you feel me?!

I’ve just done my 2017 LCI, was fiddly but got it on without the need to remove anything. The towbar made it even harder!

The heatshield looks like it's secured on by way of seven (7) nuts mayn. Should be easy you feel me?

I can imagine the towbar making it more of a pain but where there is a will, there is a way yadidimean?!

I just finished the install last night! Taking my sweet time, it took roughly an hour for the install and that included the removal of the heat shield. You could probably install the diffuser without removing the heat shield but removing it allows one to apply opposing force to ensure the central clips are locked in properly.

All in all, it was a very easy install and the OEM genuine BMW article went on without a hitch and fit like a glove. Buy nice or buy twice you feel me?
