Why waste server space with a stupid comment like that? You're not being clever. What's it matter if it's 5 or 50 years late? I'm just interested in why people chose what they chose.
So why did you choose your F chassis? Or did you just come in this thread to be politically correct about things? |

Why did I choose my F chassis over an E? Because I didn't want to buy a 4 year old car.... Last edited by tex2670; 03-03-2017 at 09:47 PM.. |

While I liked the E coupe, the 4 door really didn't speak to me and I needed a 4 door. When the 4 door F came out, I really liked the styling, so I came back to BMW.

I have an E46 now along with my F30. My first BMW was a 2009 E90.
I'm sure there are more like me out there.

lol i had N55 e90 then traded for N55 f30.
First was to avoid hpfp headaches of n54, second was to avoid first batch of new engine as i bought just as first b58s were rolling in. While i love the exterior of the f30, i miss the slightly smaller size of the e90. |

I never liked the way the E90 looked, original or LCI. The LCI E92 was OK, but the interiors did not work for me. The best looking E 3-series was the E46. I'd have a mint, low-mileage 330Ci in a heartbeat. Now they are just too old.
The F3X (GT excepted) looks good inside and out, but does not feel as good to drive as the E46. I think it's partly bloat, partly e-steering. If I didn't need four (or five) doors, I'd buy an M240i or M2 instead.

Everything about the F30 is better than the E9x with the exception of the steering feel IMHO.
That being said, the vehicle cannot be "base" model, it must be ordered with a few selected optional items to ensure you get the BMW feel or get a used unit with these items. First and foremost, the suspension must be the "704" sport suspension or the "adaptive" suspension. This is found standard on the RWD Sport & M-Sport versions, optional "adaptive M-suspension" on ALL x-drives is a must have. Also, I believe the Tech Package is a must because the full Nav screen and HUD is just so cool! I hope the new G20 replacement model has improvement in steering feel. It can be done.

I have an F31 Sport Wagon as a daily drive, updated my Outback. We have an E93 for the weekends - so I have both. I specifically went for a 328i on the E92 because I wanted a 3 litre NA engine.... the Wagon doesn't come with other options in the US.
Personally I think the E93 is a great looking car and will be for a long time. (Admittedly with the roof down of course).

I bought a 2014 328 F30. At that time, the F30 had already been out 2 years.
My brother has a 2011 335 E90. I had driven it a lot and other E90s a few times before I finally test drove an F30 when I was in the market for a car. Bottom line: I like every single thing about the F over the E; technology, looks (especially in the m-sport trim), size, the N20 engine, efficiency, interior, free maintenance for 4 years, European delivery, and ready for it, even the steering! My car with DHP, go flats and Dinan Shockware handles perfectly for me. I am one of the few I guess that thinks E90 steering was too hefty. By comparison, the F30 feels too light for many, but I like it much better. And this whole connection to the road complaint that I read about is lost on me. The way my car is set up, I love the steering (especially with VSS) and suspension, especially with DHP). Look, the E was a great product for its time and still a great product for some enthusiasts, but it wasn't my choice 3 years ago for the reasons I mentioned and I'm certain after 40k miles of happy driving that I have made the right choice for me. Now, when I drive my brothers 2011 335, I love it but I can't wait to hand it back and get in my F30. No contest in my opinion. |

Not buying a used N54 or N55. A preference because some lease returns are abused with tunes etc.
F instead of E because it is overall a better car. Oh and I already had a N54 e92. And I was lucky that it only went into limp mode twice. Although I suspect that it needed a walnut blast

Because I had the choice between my car a 5 month old demo(2014) and a 2011 CPO with more or less the same equipment but the price difference was only 8000$. I plan to keep my car 6-7 year so I told my self that it is easier to sell a 7 years old car than it is to sell a 10 years old car. I had almost 4 years of free maintenance remaining versus 1 year, the new car was more spacious, up to date and had a better transmission. Also the Diesel engine make me save a lot in fuel bills.

The first car I ever bought for myself was a used 2002 325i sedan, black and tan, which my mechanic said had the "beast package" because it had exactly zero optional extras except for the moonroof. I loved that car despite many flaws. The steering, suspension, and transmission all seemed to have been made with my exact preferences in mind: the perfect balance of precision, comfort, and confidence.
My next car was a 2012 328i sedan I ordered custom and new shortly after the F30 started production. I selected a few options but far from topped out: sportline, mineral gray over coral red, moonroof, and folding rear seats. I'm still the only owner of the car and I've loved every minute of ownership, but am considering selling it in the next year. Two years ago I bought an S2000, the first time I'd ever owned two cars at the same time (not counting my wife's cars). Very fun car, but I bought it as a project and sold it after I felt it was in the right shape. A year ago I bought an E46 again. This time it every option I could want: 2004 ZHP sedan, oxford green over natural brown, power seats, 6MT, HK sound system. It might be 13 years old, but I will probably keep it for life as my daily driver even if I buy something newer and nicer as the extra. As to your question, it comes down to lifestyle and preference. Any F series is almost certainly easier to use and live with than an E series, so if you're looking for practicality, comfort, and technology in a BMW it's an easy choice. |

What is your point? Why do people buy the newest car that can be bought with warranty (new or CPO) , has the latest tech, is more powerful and efficient vs a 5 year old model? Isn't the answer obvious enough to not ask something like that. I had an E89 with N54. Now have an F30 with the B58. The B58 is superior in every way. The N54 was a lot to maintain and I didn't even have that many miles on it. |

The waste gates and fuel pump are under extended warranty but I didn't want to wait and find out. I would also have to walnut blast it at 50k miles. A 2012 e92 335i would have the N55, unless you are looking at the 335is model. |

Had an E90 330xi for nearly 10 years and loved it. Grew to like the styling better than the F30. It started having things break however, and after spending $2k in a single year on repairs I traded it in towards a newer F30 as I would rather have money going towards car payments on a newer car than repairs on an old one. I have grown to like the F30 styling better than the E90, especially the MSport, and there are a whole slew of more creature comforts that make me enjoy my new car more.
That being said, the E90 was better with steering feel and cabin noise. If I had a mechanic shop and was going to track my car, I would have kept my E90 and done some upgrades.

BMW in general are not reliable cars. When you get an older BMW with no warranty, you should expect to put couple thousands dollars a year in repairs and maintenance (water pump, radiator, fuel pumps, radiator lines, turbo,etc...)
