Lease return end of July & over mileage !!!
Hey guys,
I return my lease at the end of July and currently I am over my mileage by 5k. I don't plan to release a bmw as I will get a cheaper car to save up for something really really nice. Any tricks or advice someone can give me to get out of paying 1200 or 0.25 cents per mile. That's a steep price Thanks lol |

Generally speaking the only time I've seen dealers waive the additional charge on vehicles that went over the milage is in cases where the customer would leave another vehicle. As that is not an option for you, the only other potential option would be to see what your buy out amount is and whether you might be able to sell the vehicle on your own for above that. That is probably not going to be the case but I couldn't think of anything else. Good luck

They don't actually 'waive' that charge, they negotiate the price they pay with BMW for the turn in or they roll it over into the next car if you leave with a new one.
Not to be a jerk, but you knew what you signed up for as far as mileage, the limit, and the cost for going over. I think your only option would have been to purchase extra mileage at some point during your lease at a reduced price.

I didn't realize you could purchase the miles two weeks before turn in. It can be done at any point before turn in?

I was told by a dealer once you can literally be in the parking lot about turn your car in and buy miles right beforehand at the discounted rate.

It used to be 90 days out. After your comments, I just found this on the BMWUSA site about half way down the page so I assume it is at a discounted rate.
While you set mileage upfront with a lease, no need to worry about overages. You can purchase additional lease miles anytime – up to one day before your lease return at 800-959-4269, or up to 120 days prior through the My BMW site.2 https://www.bmwusa.com/financial-ser...e-program.html

LOL 5k is nothing! A few years ago I leased a 328i and turned it in with 15k overage miles. Nearly $4k in fees!!! I didn't really care since the 328i payment was so low, it was a business write-off and much cheaper than getting another car. Over the life of the lease, it was only an additional $100 a month in expenses on the car ($4k/36) so no biggie. I did pay ahead of time and saved some $$. And no, the dealer did NOT waive the fee even after I agreed to purchase a new 340i M Sport. If they did, it would merely be represented in the final selling price of the 340i so there was no point. I just paid cash to avoid interest.

Which isn't a way out, you pay regardless. You either pay the mileage overage at the lease end or the roll it into the the lease on the next car and you pay for it throughout the next lease. No free lunch. $1000 for miles and $350 to turn the car in? Screw that. Shit, I would see about negotiating a lower buyout vs. the residual value, buy the car, roll in it for a while, sell or trade it in when you have some equity in the car, etc. I mean, its a good car, are you just over it? You are going to get something cheap and crappy so you can save for some glorious car in the future? Not the route I'd take, but i love these cars so thats just me. Fairly typical to be able to buy your car at lease end for significantly less than the residual value. I would rather do that then cut them a check for over a grand and THEN hand the car in. Lame

This effectively kills off the lease end buyout discount option. |

I mean honestly I did this to my self it's gonna suck cutting that check but I'm the long run I'll reap the benefits of getting rid of the car I think. I'm definitely over the car, it was fun but just not practical for NY roads especially for paying 600 bucks and then arm and a leg for insurance. Don't need it. So rather just get it out the way. With what I'll save I'll make that 1k back in a month or two I can't sweat it. Thinking about those times I went clubbing buying champagne for 1k that I'll remove from my system hours later. So with that being said I'll just deal with it I'll feel better by the fall lol |

Look at it this way, your lease was what 36 months? If at the start they said you're gonna go over your miles for an extra $25 per month you'll be good would you really have passed on the car? Yeah it sucks but driving any car is a money losing proposition.
