NBT EVO retrofit ATM HELP needed! Telematics module
Hi
I've just bought a NBT EVO that gets it's gps from a ATM (telematics 4g gps module). I'm wondering if anyone can help me with this. I don't understand what wires go into the atm module and where the atm module should be placed? I understand the atm plugs into the port under the quadlock on the nbt head unit but I don't know where to place the atm or what to connect into it from there. Any help would be really appreciated! |

Incorrect, you just need to have a matched pair of ATM & EVO - not impossible if you know how.

The ATM gets installed in the trunk (get the trunk version, and not the roof version), in the same location as the TCU or Combox, it even uses the same bracket. Once installed, the ATM and NBT need to use the same VIN, and since you can't change the VIN of the ATM, you need to change the VIN of the NBT, and that requires a new FSC kit for the ATM donor VIN. Did you previously have a Telematics unit (TCU or Combox)? If so, most of the required connections will be there, you will need to run some wires (1 twisted pair connected to Kcan2, 1 twisted pair for ethernet of OABR, and 3 wires for MIC1 in quadlock. IF you did not previously have telematics, you will need to run 2 additional wires from microphone to ATM) from where ever the ATM is installed to the NBT unit, I run a CAT-5 cable. These are the wires that will be there if you previously had telematics 3 to microphone, 2 to SOS button/led, crash signal, 2 to emergency speaker, power, and gnd, if they are not there, you need to run them, or disable them in the ATM via coding - SOS can be disabled in ATM, also the crash signal can be disabled, the ATM can also be coded to use actual speakers, and not emergency speaker.

so easiest way to get this to work, get the SIM card from your current TCB removed and installed into the ATM, then it will work.
PM me and I can put you in touch with someone that can do this, I have no involvement in that sort of thing as it needs very specialist tools.

Mine is a NBTEvo ID4 (with TCB), and the objective is having some more apps, and/or screen mirroring my android phone. To sum it up (correct me if I'm wrong): 1 - NBT can change VINs, ATM cannot; 2 - NBT and ATM must have the same VIN. To have all available services, the only way is then to: A) Buy both together (same donor car) and keep the donor's VIN in the NBT (and then subscribe the services on that donor's VIN); B) Buy separately, but code the NBT to the ATM's VIN (and then subscribe the services on that donor's VIN); In these A and B cases, should we also move the SIM from our previous TCB to the new ATM (or do we stay with the donor's SIM)? OR C) Swap the SIM from the previous TCB to the new ATM, because it is the SIM where the VIN is somehow embedded, and that would do the trick (and the new NBT should then be coded to our own VIN)? |

If you do have a TCB then that means you have NBT ID3 - if that is the case then you can get a TCB > ATM adaptor - they can be bought on ebay.

But if you say that ATM are installed in all cars with NBTEvo ID4, than that's what I must have, because I have the Navigation Pro as defined here (F20 1 series 05/2015 build): Last edited by tonirai; 05-02-2019 at 08:45 PM.. |

There is a an easy way to tell which headunit is fitted:
Go to the map screen, press the Options button on the idrive controller, select Navigation Settings > Position & Version > Version Information If it says "NEXT" then it's ID3, if it says NBTevo - then it's ID4.

Anyway, I finally had the time to pop the lid cover in the boot, and took a picture of it - I have an ATM-01 (3G version). One more question - I see a lot of retrofits that require the swap of the screen and knob controller... In my particular case, if I understood correctly, the knob doesn't need to be changed, and the screen depends on the version (because of its power rate)? Is this correct? Thanks a lot.
