Interior rear view mirror compatibility - from G30 to F30

I guys,

I don't know if someone did this kind of switch or if you know but I want to change the interior rear view mirror from my F30 so I was wondering if someone know if the interior rear view mirror from G30 is compatible with F30?

Thank you

Yes, a review mirror from a G30 is compatible with a G30.

In fact EVERY G30 part is compatible with another G30, duh.

Hi guys,

I managed to change that ugly and old interior mirror, now it looks much cleaner and better.
Is more or less complicated as in some cases is necessary to remove that support from the mirror and replace it with the one that you have, on my case that was the solution but for sure is much more nicer than the previews one.

Does Autodim work? I assume you didn't have the compass up there before? Plug n play or no?

Yes, the autodim works and actually everything works quite well.

What do you mean by compass?

As related to plug and play is more or less
The idea is that if you will use the support from G30, the black cap will not fit anymore to cover the support therefore I replaced the support between them, basically I kept the support from my F30 and replaced only the mirror with that frame that you see (I pullout the mirror back where is that round and replaced like this)
If you need much details on this, I can send you some pics to show you better what I mean.

There is an original F30 mirror made in G20 style. They created it close to end of F30 generation production and it is an option - however you can buy and install it

Y’all make me feel old. I remember upgrading to the ultra svelte (by comparison) e83 mirror many years ago on my e34. And thinking how nice and compact the f30 mirror was compared to the old 3 pin manual e34 one!

This is really interesting!!
I see it is with a garage door opener. Wonder if it is compatible if the original one did not have a garage door opener? Very little information available....

Garage door opener is always a stand-alone item in the body of the mirror, it jsut borrows power and ground. So yes.

That's what I thought. Great, although I would have to modify my Hörmann garage door to be less secure in order to enable use of homelink.

Anyone know if the replacement is easy?

If your existing interior mirror has at least an auto dim option it is a simple plug and play.

1) Remove mirror cover
2) Disconnect mirror connector
3) Pull down (in parallel to the windshield) interior mirror in order to remove it
4) Snap-in new interior mirror (pull up in parallel to the windshield)
5) Connect mirror connector
6) Return back mirror cover

5 minutes of work...

Good to hear! Thanks!
Just to clarify:
- Are the mirror cover parts easily opened (separated), without damage?
- when you say "parallel", you probably mean perpendicular to the windshield....? Just pull the mirror or does it need to be in specific position / turned or twisted in specific way?

- Yes, easily opened at the middle line
- If you look at the car from side it is in parallel towards down. No twists

Here is pictures of this mirror on my car

Question to all of you who have the so called frameless mirror for F3x....

I received mine, but I notice a vertical line just left of the centreline...
On some photos I found online, the same line is recognisable.....
Could you please confirm whether this is a standard "feature"!? Looks odd!! t is more visible under particular angle and in bright conditions.

Here a photo of another unit from the internet:

Here a photo of another unit from the internet:
I ordered the same F3x new style mirror (p/n 51 16 2 471 107) in hopes of retrofitting my car.. and found the same line on it. I returned the item because I wasn't happy seeing that line. "Funny" part is the line actually became more predominant once the auto-dim activated. Once you see it, you definitely can't un-see it. Anyways, the shop ordered in a second unit, same thing; had the line.

To make a long story short, I refused accepting either mirror and they refunded my purchase price.

Something to note, if you car has the original KAFAS camera installed for high-beam assistant, it'll disable the system. Unfortunately there's no way to make it work because the first generation KAFAS camera has a printed circuit board soldered inside the your current mirror to make the system function. If you're ok with disabling the high-beam assistant, or if your car wasn't equipped with the camera, then it'll work.

If your car is equipped with the KAFAS2 camera system, the mirror should be plug and play with no coding required.

Thanks for the feedback, zibbit!
This is really odd!! I just ordered a second unit, hoping it will be better. I haven't mounted the first one still.

I have browsed the net and just yesterday found also a video showing the mirror from different angles. My feeling is that this line exists on all (for whatever reason), but is by far not as visible and noticeable on all as it is on mine. I can post the link to the video a bit later but if you look very carefully, you may see it vary vaguely once or twice, but on mine you simply can't not see it... it is quite extreme.

I will report once I get the second unit... I guess in a week or so.
This is frustrating.

Regarding KAFAS - I have an LCI model, so I assume I have the KAFAS 2.... The mirror P/N is given as compatible for my vehicle.

Good luck.. You'll actually notice the LH side of the mirror is actually darker than the left with the bright line separating both halves. It's my belief they've got a bad batch of V1 frameless mirrors that was fixed by the time they released that style of mirror on the G3x.

KAFAS 2 has "connected drive" stencilled on the outside of the glass and is mounted above the rearview mirror mount.

That is one explanation. But since not everyone having the retrofit mirror is complaining (no other complaints found) and it does not look as bad on the photos and videos I found online, the likely explanation (hopefully) is that the line is not as bad on all units....

Look at this and tell me what you think...:

I wonder if this would work on a M2. I have a 2017. I love the car. The mirror, not so much!!
