Finally got my hands on my new Discovery yesterday, after a five month wait since initially putting pen on paper.

It's a HSE Luxury 3.0 SDV6 in Carpathian Grey with Glacier leather, plus a couple of option packs (technology for HUD/adaptive LEDs/solar windscreen and driver assist for 360 cameras and something else). 21 inch wheels wearing Pirelli Scorpion Zero all season tyres.

So far, blown away by the comfort and spec on this car. Still learning all of its tricks. The Cruise assist is basically self-driving without lane change capability and is pretty impressive.

The ride is sublime and the optional Adaptive Dynamics (active dampers) make a significant difference in tidying the handling through direction switches. Clearly it's a heavy SUV though and is not lithe on its tyres! It's very, very quiet and I'm loving interrupting that as I have an opening sunroof for the first time in years.

It's quick for its size. Easy to drop other cars, if not 440i easy.

825w Meridian Surround sound is astoundingly good. One of the key reasons I went for the top of the range model.

Boot is huge and toddler daughter loves her seat in the back.

That's it for now. I'm honestly in disbelief that I've got such a brilliant car sat on my drive.

Very nice! The best bit about these cars is the secondary armrests I love them and wish BMW would do them as they make you feel like a captain. (no boat jokes please)

Lovely interior and barging around is lovely and just as enjoyable as blasting around in sports car but in a different way.

The amount of times it's been in the garage, it's probably just one more thing to go wrong. (4 warranty claims in 8 months therefore I'm thinking of getting an new X5 on that deal but that B word is stopping me)

I think the X5 and X7 should have them as they have that upright seating position, you sit pretty low in the 7 cabin with the seat sides and centre console around so don't think there is room.

Well sounds like nothing much has changed since i had my e39 740i back in 1997...that was always back at dealer....Over engineered they said back then and that was a German dealer near Dusseldorf..

Yeah, the armrests are a really cool feature. The whole driving position is very commanding and that view adds to the relaxing experience.

Totally agree that barging and wafting is very enjoyable. In an ideal world we'd have this, my wife's car as the 'small and handy' one and (something like) a 911 for proper driving fun. But I'd always rather spend the budget on the car I/we spend most time in than compromise that one for the sake of any weekend car - which I would probably have time to use twice a year. So wafting it is!

This one's meant to be a keeper and with us for many years...

One advantage the X5 and X7 do have is that the comfort seats (iirc) have backrests where the top and bottom adjust separately. I've not tried them, but that sounds a great feature. Guess your 7 has them?

Generally I found the X5 seating position to be a little low and enveloping vs. the Land/Range Rovers, which made the car slightly less easy to place.

A very capable car for sure!

But why no pics of the rear I wonder?

And I hope your local dealership has a nice waiting room, or decent courtesy cars

Massively capable, more than I will use sadly. And yes my fingers are crossed!

Ok, I walked around...

Very good spot. They are capacitive and light up depending on what you are doing. Will take a picture tomorrow.

Yes it has the comfort seats, yes the RRS sport I had a go in had a very commanding seat position you mention, it's a LR feature isn't it.

Nothing like a new motor on the drive, enjoy!

Loving the control panel in the boot as well.

Fantastic, I thought I had missed the arrival, that's some wait but it looks well worth it. Best of its kind in class, congrats.

I quite like the back as I know why it is what it is, for those annoyed there’s always this!

That looks absolutely stunning, even the back. Proper presence, great kit. And your daughter will love the boot seats and the DVD player.

I am impressed. And I do like wafting...

Nice one Rich, congrats

Always quite liked the wonky arse on a Disco. I still remember my old man having one of the first Discos in the UK, way back when. I arrived home from school to it. It had a hydraulic step under the rear door for the bench seats. Anyway.
