Interior rattle / buzzing from near drivers dash - solved

Posting this up because it plagued me for a few months and maybe I can spare someone else.

I'd been having an on-off buzzing noise from somewhere in the dash on the driver's side. Wasn't any of the panels and nothing I adjusted or messed with would make it stop for 30-60 minutes - then it would just disappear for a few days on its own. Impossible to have the dealer diagnose.

Eventually I popped some panels off and went poking around, and got lucky. Under the dash, above the dead pedal is the module pictured below. It's a metal enclosure very loosely resting in a plastic 'holder'. It's a real crap design. I popped it out, put a bunch of adhesive-backed felt on all sides of it, and popped it back into the holder. No noises since.

I'm gonna have to do something like this with my screen, the plastic bezel vibrates while I drive, and it's driving me crazy. If I can pull the plastic bit off the screen, felt tape should hopefully fix it.

Are you talking about for the HUD? Mine does it too intermittently when cruising at highways speeds. But mine isn't the bezel, because even if I push down on it, it still rattles. It seems like it's a component from the screen itself. Basically impossible to isolate though because you can't exactly pull out the instrument cluster and start poking around while driving 70+ mph.

No, for me it's the idrive screen. It seems like the bezel has separated from the rest of the screen on the left side. My hud has also rattled in the past, but I haven't noticed it in a while.

Damn OP, thank you so much for this. Just tried this out after being frustrated with this buzz/rattle for weeks. You have saved my sanity.
