Didn't realize BMW's were so up to date with technology
I came from 2010 G37 Coupe. It had keyless entry, auto lights, iPhone integration, memory seats. Pretty basic stuff but I thought it was pretty nice. Did most of what I wanted. Now I just bought a 2015 435i CG and am blown away with all the features. I'm sure it will take me quite a while to find and figure out a lot of them. So my car is essentially 4 years old. Has any new tech come out that I am missing. I can't imagine they found something else to add.

Japanese cars tend to lag behind German cars by three to four years. It's not that the Japanese can't keep up, it's that they don't want to. Their conservative philosophy is to wait until new tech is well proven before adopting it. The downside to German cars is that they tend to be if anything too aggressive getting new tech on the street, which can lead to reliability problems, especially in the first two years of a series. So where a new model is concerned if it's German it's probably best to wait until its 3rd year for them to get the bugs out, whereas if it's Japanese chances are the bugs were already worked out, by the Germans. My experience going to a '15 F34 after an '07 Altima was similar to yours, and I waited until the 3rd year of the F series before buying one.

There were a lot of features standard on Infiniti since about 2007 that BMW didn't offer or were not standard (Bluetooth Audio, Comfort Access). Also, the iPhone integration was vastly superior in Infiniti's system, only requiring a USB iPhone cable and not a $100 adapter cable that only worked with the 30 pin connector with a terribly slow iDrive system.
My point is, you're comparing a last generation car to a current gen car. If you take the E90, it's much more similar to the G37 in terms of technology. If you take the Q50, it's much more similar to the F30. It's true that BMW generally has a bit more new technology, but the contrast is not so stark if you compare like-for-like generations. |

I didn’t think that the Japanese lagged behind, the OP is comparing something that is 5 years older and tech advances a lot in just a year never mind 5. My previous 2004 Accord for example remembered the individual audio volume levels of all the different inputs, my 2015 f30 doesn’t which is bloody annoying.

Japan is often well ahead of Germany when it comes to electronics such as audio, nav and displays. For example, a Toyota from the last decade has a better functioning NAV display than the NBT unit in the OPs 2015 BMW. Germany is often well ahead of Japan when it comes to functions, many you do not manually interact with, such as ABS, performance and the like. Japan often waits to see how those shake out before implementing. Obviously, that was not the case with hybrids and electric cars though. |

I came from a 2011 G37 and ended up in a 435i GC as well. The 3.0T Q50s have most of the same tech as the F36, and it even comes standard, where as BMW needs to be optioned in. The Q50 just isn't a good driver's car.

Q50 has 70/40 weight distribution. Not so good for a rear drive car.

Regarding OPs post they now have wireless Apple car play and touchscreen. Is your car fully loaded? Car play now has Waze and google maps. If you have heads up display that is nice to have. There are some improvements with LCI mechanically as well. BMW was first with the 4 cylinder turbo in the US market then Lexus and Infiniti now have 4 cylinder DI turbo in their cars. BMW was first with auto start stop not sure if the Japanese luxury cars have that yet.
