Pretty sure they show them that way to show how they are made. You definitely don’t want that open design for the road where sand, rocks etc get lodged in the “spokes”. I’m certain there will be a traditional sidewall that will protect the interior but also help with handling, support and stiffness,

Not going anywhere and they've had prototypes of this for years. Michelin won't be able to mass produce this tire with good uniformity limits, it's a non starter. I'd love to see how it does in rolling resistance tests(one of the most important tests these days).
