MPPSK Insurance Renewal - KTM

That dreaded time of year has come, in which the round robin of the insurance companies begin.

Admiral have raised my renewal quote by over 20% with nothing at all changing on the policy, now £490 realise its a lot less than some.

After using the comparison sites, phoning a few up & comparing my notes from last year. Quite a few companies are refusing to cover the car with MPPSK most of which did provide a quote last year or being very high prices £800+ Adrian Flux were ridiculous.

A-Plan have quoted £380 using KTM as underwriters being the best quote, so far.

Has anyone used or are with them, any issues ?

Have you tried BMW own insurance? I found them competitive and they may be more amenable to official BMW upgrades.

LV have historically been ok with upgrades too.

Admiral tried this with me last renewal so I went with Performance Direct instead. They are modification friendly brokers. Policy is underwritten by AXA

I'm with A-plan they were one of the best quotes I received. If you didn't, then use their Thatcham office as they deal with specialist / modified cars.

No experience as such yet and hope I don't have to but they certainly are communicative & you will always get someone on the phone quickly who know what they are talking about.

Some years ago insured my modded Jap spec Impreza with them, seemed good then as well. Around that time I also used Keith Michaels insurance, maybe worth a go, although from memory they are for more modded cars.

A-Plan have just opened a branch about 300mt from my office so might pay them a visit come renewal time if only for the novelty of speaking to a human being in today’s digital age

Makes me sound old but when I first started driving in the late 90’s I remember the chore of thumbing through the yellow pages ringing up companies for quotes

+1 for A-Plan Thatcham. I had a bump last year and the claim management was absolutely fine. The underwriter for my policy is Markerstudy; also very professional to deal with.

Used A-Plan for one of our previous cars and always seemed pretty good. We're currently with Chris Knott and they happily insure with MPPSK 👍

I’ve used A-Plan for the last 5 years or so and have had no issues with them whatsoever and they’ve consistently been the cheapest and the reason I’ve stayed with them. When making a claim, their claims team have been spot-on and when making modification to the car, albeit cosmetic in my case, they have been able to handle this. However, it obviously depends on the underwriter and if there are additional fees to pay.

I would agree with others, I only deal with the Thatcham Office (01635 874646).

I wouldn't have told them.
It's an official, dealer supplied, warrantied, manufacturer option.

To my mind that separates it from an aftermarket modification, and this was backed by my insurance company when I enquired about the M Sport body kit with 20" wheels. They said they'd regard that as an option, just like electric seats or different interior trim so long as it was genuine BMW and dealer fitted

If it's one thing I've been taught by frequenting many forums over the years, that's not to be a smart arse with insurance companies!

Whilst I share your opinion, to a degree, not to declare such a thing would be downright stupidity and in the event of a claim would probably come back to bite you on that (clever) arse of yours!

Surely the £380 arranged through A-Plan is a good deal?

I'm with LV and paid over £800 for the last renewal so with the insurance due in December I'll give A-plan a try. In my experience LV don't like any vehicle modifications.

Great tip

Seems a bit of a mess....hope this can re-assure you

Despite previous comments, I CAN recommend LV=
  • 435i
  • MY 2014
  • Tracker
  • MPPK
  • No other mods
  • £204.49 (July 2018 price)
  • My age>60
MPPK....listed with LV= as follows:
Has the following changes from the manufacturer's standard specification: Engine - Management Chip Changed

Not only that, I find them very good to deal with. Last year I had a household claim through them (>5 figures) - they were outstanding

I did just the once have a stroppy LV= agent, I just put the phone down and started again.

EDITED - PS. NOTE: I have the MPPK......giving an additional 306PS up to 340PS & torque increase from 400Nm to 450Nm. I don't know the MPPSK figures

Garage List
I'm with LV and they charged me a pro rata twenty something quid for the remaining 2 months of my policy for the MPPSK. Then when this year's renewal came through earlier this month, the annual premium had gone up £82 over last year (when I didn't have the MPPSK) which I thought was a bargain!

This thread (and the lack of a spare £2k) is one of the main reasons I did not do the MPPSK. Held over a barrel, with limited options for insurance..
Plus, the car is plenty fast enough for me and makes pretty decent noise in getting there.

Really strange. Aviva didn't even care about the MPPSK, as it's dealer fitted and a manufacturer accessory it wasn't even considered a mod.
