Question New X3 M Sport 3.0L

I'm considering the above with quite a high spec. The new X3 ticks a lot of my boxes and looks a good all round daily motor for my needs right now. A few questions i have first though if you don't mind helping me out...
I have always bought my vehicles, but is leasing a more popular option these days? If so, why?
Who is doing the best deals/discounts these days?
Is the M40d really worth the extra ££££'s?
I am also tempted by the M40i.
My mileage isn't really an issue, probably 9k a year.
I just like my vehicles with a bit of grunt.
What are the must haves in the list of options?
I'm also considering a pre reg car or one with a few miles on if i'm buying.
Any pointers much appreciated guys, as you are all such an helpful bunch.
Cheers.

The debate over lease, pcp, finance, cash buy could go on forever. Whichever suits you best is the answer to that one.

Best to buy new and PCP it. If you have the cash to pay it off do it after delivery so you still benefit from the extra PCP discount.

No point getting a high spec 30d, the difference in price to an M40d will be negligible.

Best deals are from Tony Lewis (TRL), see his deals on the page below, about 12% discount, and contact him directly on TRLdeals@outlook.com and tell him I sent you.

Bad advice

Best is actually to do the sums and proceed as best suits you

Im just about to hand back my leased 335d Touring after 2y

There is no way the differential between cost price, at the usual huge discount not list, and what I could have sold it for would have been anywhere near my lease payments - and thats not even including road tax at the new bonus 500+ rate which are included in leases

Work out what each modality is going to cost you and proceed accordingly
Although as the current F30/31 is now effectively obsolete expect PCP and lease deals to be terrible as the value at 2/3/4y is now awful and if you're buying expect a shock when the new model arrives

The M40i/d will not cost more than the 30d per month on a PCP. The residual value helps keep the costs down.

As teaston said, TRL is your best contact.

Probably depends on your mileage if you go petrol or diesel. The will both give you the plenty of grunt you are after.

I would recommend the adaptive dampers, not a lot extra but helps with the ride quality.

Please let me know if you have any other questions. I've had my M40i since March and still loving it!

Thanks for the replies and advice so far guys.

If i go for the M40d it isn't going to be to the the same as my spec'd up 30d, so i will have to get that up to the spec that i would want my 30d. The 40d is some 12k more expensive in standard guise, Is there much of a difference is spec between the 30d and 40d to warrant the 12k difference in price?

i'd reccomend building them on the configuration on their website and save each car and compare the spec would probably give you a better idea what you're after. I did this when buying my 340 and it helped a lot.

I don’t know where you’re getting £12k from! 30d M Sport is £48k, M40d is £52k and comes with a lot more standard equipment!

Trust me, there’s no point getting a high spec 30d.

Wow, I never looked up the list price of the basic 30d msport that I had for 24 hours. Seriously, £48k?!?!

I'm not sure either, i was on a site last night and i'm sure it said 30d from 39k and 40d 52k. Maybe they were stating that their cars started from these prices that they had in stock. Thinking about it, it might have been secondhand. Or it might have been a Carwow price. I've been looking at that many prices recently.
Can anyone confirm if this will be happening?

That will be a beast of a car..

I think that is a BMW guide price isn't it? No one ever pays list price for a BMW do they?

Completely agree. But still beggars belief that the X3 30d lists that high. I assumed the list price would have been just sub £40k and I was still very unimpressed with the car. Like you, I also assumed the jump to the M40d/i was bigger.

If your miles allow, I would recommend looking at the M40i. I have not driven one, but would imagine that the B58 takes the whole package to another level. I found the diesel really spoilt what could have been a calm and quiet car.

If you want a calm and quiet car, buy a Volvo!

£4000 get you 0.7 seconds quicker to 60 mph and this. Not sure if that's worth £4k or not, personally.

Son in Law has an X3 3.0d MSport - follows a 440i MSport. He misses the theatre of the petrol even though the diesel makes decent progress.....

I have an SQ5 petrol - I think the petrol suits it very well..... plenty of runt and great refinement. I do about 12k miles a year and wouldnt dream of going diesel at that mileage just to get a few more mpg (as best part of 60p per gallon more diesel currently)

Plenty of X3 M40i at about £44-45K on the BMW used website.
Not high spec vehicles though.

£4k if you buy the car outright, but the vast majority of people PCP, so with the better discounts and higher GFV of the M40d the difference in monthly payment isn’t much, and if you add the adaptive LED’s, memory seats & digi dash to the 30d then there’s probably virtually no difference. (Plus you get the sensatec dash, m sport diff and other bits and pieces)

Whose name is the log book in? if its yours its credit finance, if its theirs its a lease...

Lets not go down that route shall we. Only a matter of time before you have a car and they pull that loophole...
