Weights of break set ups

Hi everyone

So like most of you I have modified my car quite a bit and in doing so have read a lot of information in regards to performance and handling

I see a lot of discussion about the importance of light rims and lighter tyres. People speak of unsprung weight

But no one talks about the added weight of going bigger breaks

Now I have the standard (non blue) m sport brakes on my car. 330mm rotors up front, 300mm (i think) on the rear. When i think about M Performance breaks, which have huge rotors (370mm and 345mm) and calipers which equates to a lot of steel. Surely this effects handling and performance like heavier rims would...right???

Well, the larger brakes are generally more rotating mass so yes it is undesirable. Unless you are doing **very heavy tracking/enduro**, the 'standard' M brakes should be fine even for 'normal' track use with Motul (or the like) brake fluid. What you could do is use M brakes and find someone who makes lightweight hat/floating rotors. That's what i did with the guys at Girodisc for the heavily tracked Ferrari.

The rotors with the M-sport brake pkg (blue) are the heaviest. M-Sport Line and M-Performance rotors are lighter and weigh about the same.

The link in the first post leads to an excel with the weight of the rotors. The bigger m performance rotors are not significantly heavier, because they are 2-piece rotors. For the calipers, I didn't has the chance to weigh them but the m performance calipers felt lighter than the sliding one pot.
