Those readers show you the available tests but it doesn't discern any aggregate by state.

Eg. <1 "not ready" tests passes in MA vs. <N in another state

How about a catted down pipe? Does anyone in Mass have one that passed the state inspection? I'm looking to add one this summer with a flash tune but I'm hesitant about the inspection process. Further, I know a lot of shops are tentative to remove/install any equipment that alters emissions equipment. That could be another issue just finding an installer or shop to do the work.

I heard that Fabspeed's sport cat will pass but it's double the price of most other catted DP's. But maybe that is the price you have to pay to get a pass with Massachusetts emissions standards.

not sure about the one imformation but i have anotber question if anyone mah be able to help.

i recently got a safety rejection due to my lamin x yellow film over my fog lights. has anyone else had this issue or is the inpsector just being a stickler?

the law states "(d) Lighting Devices and Reflectors. All lighting devices and reflectors originally equipped
on the vehicle at the time of manufacture shall be operable and operate as they were
originally designed. Lenses must be intact, clean, unobstructed, and free from cracks. The
use of adhesive tape to repair lenses is prohibited."

i surely do not believe they can consider them non operable as they were originally designed could they?

They are not original equipment though, you put yellow film on them, I think any colored lighting is prohibited. can't be yellow, blue, red, etc. But to be honest I think the inspector you got is just being a stickler.

so if I was to replace my burnt out fog light with yellow ones. this would pass? if there was no film or a clear film to just protect the lens. I just dont see how this is a safety issue by any means

Not sure whether this was ever resolved or answered, but I'd like to know myself whether we can run a catted DP in MA and still pass emissions without having to swap out every time

The plate frames thing pisses me off so much. First its BS. Second they took of my plates chance of scratching my car. I had an inspection done by a dealer though and they did not remove my plate frames so that may be my goto

Never was resolved, I'm not sure what to do as well, I'm probably going to get a catless downpipe, as I have my HD FMIC, chargepipe, and BM3 tune, just need the DP. I'll probably end up swapping DPs before each inspection unless some can shed some light or info to if we need to whether with a catless or catted.

Someone on here says they have passed NY inspection with MHD and catless. Should be the same with MA.

I got tired of getting conflicting answers on this from a variety of people and even reputable tuners in MA. I ended up breaking down and just purchasing the MPPSK from the dealer, figuring if I ended up paying 1-1.5k for a catted DP, plus installation, and then had to still worry about potentially having to remove the DP annually, it was worth the added cost for the piece of mind and warranty the MPPSK brings.

That said, my own understanding is that as long as you meet the following requirements, you will pass even with a catless DP (unless you get a real stickler/PITA shop performing the inspection):

1.) No CEL's either showing on the dash or hidden (if blocked by an aftermarket tune - i.e. JB4 or otherwise)

2.) Successfully completed drive cycle (showing readiness for the required readings)- presumably with standard tune, or at the very least a tune that will not block certain readings for readiness

I've read stories of people who have passed in MA with catless DP's using sparkplug non foulers.

I have also read stories of people who are able to pass because they run the catted DP and are able to run these without an aftermarket tune due, and without throwing a CEL.

Yet the catted DP's, they will go on to tell you, always end up eventually throwing CEL's as they wear out, meaning you've spent almost $1k more to be stuck in the same position as those with catless DP's afterall...

It is always a risk, and it appears the laws keep getting more stringent around this stuff. If you're going with a catted DP, I strongly recommend knowing what the current drive cycle involves for 'readiness', and doing test runs to see whether you are able to complete this without drawing a CEL. Also suggest picking up the non-foulers that others have referenced and reviewed in this forum.

It's been 3 months since the last post. Has anyone in MA added a high-flow catted DP and passed MA emissions? Thanks.

You shpuld add a lot more detail...

What kind of catted DP?
How many miles you had it on.
Are you tuned? MHD? BM3? Or JB4?
Ever thrown a CEL?

Got it. Fabspeed uses top catalyst material. They're about the only catted do with a guaranteed no cel and it's actually true.

That’s why I bought. It came highly recommended. Also running Remus axle back, VRSF charge and tic pipe with a Wagner intercooler

How does that sound with the Remus? I have been debating going with catted over catless with mine. If you are ever in the city I'd like to hear it live.

I like it. Not too loud and it burbles here and there. I run it mostly in comfort and it sounds great. Sport of course turns it up a notch. I’m debating on resonator removal but the reported drone has me hesitating. Im wondering if I might be able to adapt the AWE mud pipe to the Remus. That might make it scream
