An OT post about cars!

Just to make a wee change from other forum tediousness, I'll add some about my motoring weekend...

I took the M4 to Scotland these last few days and had the pleasure of a nice 270 mile loop from Perth up to Glenshee, Braemar, over the pass from Cockbridge to Tomintoul, then around the north of the Cairngorms down to Laggan and across to Spean Bridge. A spot of lunch in Fort William, then off back to Perth via Glen Coe.

The roads were pretty quiet given the time of year, but an absolute pleasure.

The weather was wet at times, plenty of greasy roads, yet the M4 was awesome. I sometimes miss the xdrive of the 335d, but the traction I had was surprisingly good. It was good bonding time with the car, really getting to know it's characteristics. I'm well and truly smitten now.

Its a spectacularly good all rounder- bags of fun, immense performance, perfectly refined for the motorway slog up and down, plenty of room for luggage. Even did 30mpg at a fast cruise pace.

Excellent Terry. I'm going to be bonding with mine in a week or two with a drive up to North Yorkshire. Despite the past 5 days of ownership it being shitty and rainy, I've fallen in love with it already. Its as different from my 435d as you can possibly get. When you getting the ACS coilovers fitted?

I've skied a few times at Glenshee, I love the countryside up there Glencoe is majestic.

My dad hadn't seen the car yet, and so wanted to take him for a spin, and I had to pick up a set of coilovers and set of front brakes, so needed the luggage room.

It's much more pleasant on the motorway too.

I'll be looking for a few more good drives before the winter tyres go on!

Not sure yet about the coilovers, either December or will wait till spring.

Me too. The second grimmest skiing I've ever done! The most grim being the Lecht, a few miles further up the road.

Glen Coe is quite possibly the most majestic place in the UK though.

Oh it's grim up there on the slopes you feel like a polar explorer rather than a recreational skier.

More like ice skating on a slope, but with blunt rentals. Character building they call it!

So you condemn the use of inaccurate profile pics?

And once I’ve ordered a new car the old one is forgotten about already! I haven’t even cleaned it since the order!

I’m already looking at new cars and I’m stuck with the Audi for another 12 months at the earliest, I’m again snooping around Defenders for a bit of a project but no idea what I want as my DD right now, all I know is the Mrs wants a Mini Cooper cab.

I think the 335d is a better avatar for me than the M4 to be honest. I'm more a fairly boring, practical, but fairly capable and competent kind of guy.

And after over 4 years with it as my pic I think it's just me now.

+1 on Glencoe. I used to make an annual 900 mile round trip purely to drive through there and some of the other great roads (out to Mallaig etc). Some fantastic driving roads. One year I stuck over 2000 miles on a hired diesel Mk.1 mondeo in four days. I was curious to see if the handling lived up to the press hype - it did.

Glad you enjoyed the trip in the M4, wish I had time to take the 440i up there.

Thanks for the post, reminded me of some very happy motoring memories
