While you're at you should also sign the petition to bring back cassette players, manual windows, steel wheels, >10 seconds 0-60 times, dinosaurs, hairy muffs and everything else that has been gladly resigned to the history books!

Amen to that. Don't think I ever put a CD in, not even in my old MY12 F30. Once I discovered it had an AUX input you could play MP3s through.

I've been streaming Bluetooth using Spotify and amazon music. Haven't used my CD player or may have tried it out just to see if it works. My 2011 Camry has a six disc in dash cd changer lol.

IMHO your inability to appreciate the appeal of a manual gearbox - at least in some types of cars - says far more about you than it does about the manual gearbox...

It went about four or five years ago in the Mini range.
The problem is BMW don't make a decent Manual gearbox. If Honda can make a beautiful slick precise manual in a Civic. With a transverse engine and cables. Why can't BMW with a stick straight out the top of the gearbox.

Ford's manual boxes are lovely in comparison - slick shifts, light clutches... same can't be said for their autos, mind you

If BMW made a decent manual box it would be a different story, but I'm not signing a petition to urge them to keep making the rubbery long throw manuals they currently do.

I had an E92 M3 manual and the gearbox was utter shite. Only kept it a few months then bought the DCT version. Expensive mistake.

Whatever, it's a fantastic idea because BMW are bound to reappraise their product strategy and invest many millions on the outcome of this bollocks. A petition. Seriously?

I have had a few Mercs in the past. All auto's because of the bad rep for manual. Never actually tried one though.

LOL, like this would do anything at all. Autos are better for emissions and mpg etc than manuals, so soon they'll all be gone. Blame the emission hitlers.

The last BMW I drove with a manual gearbox was an F30 320d. The gearbox was utter garbage in comparison to the ZF. It really let the car down as a whole.
I don't really think the 3 series needs a manual any more. I would rather see better packaging of the centre console rather than having to accommodate a manual gear shift. |

BMW manual gearchange quality went downhill with the advent of the 6 speeder. I had a 5 series then a 3, both with 5 speeds. Not the best change but OK. Then 2 x1 series with 6 speeds, pretty awful, especially up or down 5 to 6. Also stalled a good few times in lower gears due to slipping into wrong gear. Not something I had ever down on a regular basis in many years of driving. After a spell with an auto in a loan car I changed to my current auto and will never go back.

I like a manual in certain type of car, not a mass market high volume car made for daily driving.
If anybody really craves the interaction of the manual then they'd be better off in a different car entirely than a 3 series. Keep the CD player though, I like loading my music on to the hard drive!
