Interested in getting bootmod3 for my 428i

Hey guys, so I've been looking at bootmod3 for a while. I've been interested in modding my car for months now, but I keep changing my mind about what I want. To be completely honest I am pretty new to the modding scene and only have a basic understanding.

I would like to get bootmod3 and am particularly interested in the burble map. I am curious what would be required or necessary to get the most out of bootmod3. It seems that an intercooler would be a good place to start. However, with the burble map, at least to my understanding, it causes your car to run richer and that can cause issues with the cat. So does this mean I should also get a cat back exhaust?

TL : DR I am interested in getting bootmod3 for the burble tune and am not sure what kinds of bolt ons and other mods I should do beforehand.

Thank you in advance!

It sounds like you need two mods to support your Bootmode3 tune:

1. Intercooler
2. Catless downpipe

This will allow you to run the BM3 Stage 2 flash tune with aggressive burbles (if you choose).

Stage 1: no boltons needed
Stage 2: catless downpipe and intercooler

However, there is a ton of info on bootmod3 on this forum, so search around a bit. This has all been discussed before.

Thank you guys! I ended up doing some more research after posting this and came to the same conclusion as this reply. I might just go stage one and buy the maps bundle so that I can just go stage 2 once I get a downpipe and intercooler.

I'm FBO 428ix as well. I have stage 1 right now because I swapped my DP with OEM for cold start noise. But I'm getting it replaced with my ER Catted high flow dp. Gonna flash it to BM3 Stage 2. Can't wait!

Should I flash it to Stage 2 or Stage 2 AGG.

Also off topic, someone please tell me that my N26 will be ok. I’m so paranoid about my timechain 😂 although I only have 32k miles right now.

Up to you for AGG vs. not AGG all preference.

No one can for sure say that your engine will be okay. You might throw a rod tomorrow and you might do nothing but oil changes till 200k miles, no way to be sure. You can take comfort in the fact that PTF tunes are well made and that plenty of people run stage 2 for 10s of thousands of miles, but in the end at these power levels we're really starting to wring this little engine out for all she's worth.

But it will probably be fine

Probably will be fine. There are guys running high flow downpipes with aggressive burbles without issue, so you should be ok.

No, not yet. I am still trying to figure out which downpipe and intercooler to get. I am looking at the Evolution Racewerks catless downpipe, but I am not too sure about the intercooler. I'm also not too sure if it's necessary that I get a chargepipe upgrade if I am going for stage 2 BM3. At the moment I can really only afford bootmod3, an intercooler, and catless downpipe.

In my experience, a charge pipe isn't a necessary upgrade on the N20 like it is on the N55. ER makes great products too btw, I wouldn't get their DP, but Wagner makes a good intercooler.

Anything specifically wrong with the ER downpipe? And thank you for the advice!

I would upgrade the CP with the stage 2.

No ER DP is great, I meant to say I wouldn't get the Wagner DP, but I would get the Wagner intercooler. My bad, didn't word that correctly. I just don't like the design of the Wagner DP...

Oh haha. Couldn't agree with you more. The wagner dp kinda looks like the stock one too much. In my opinion the ER DP has the best aesthetics and it seems to be one of the better ones out there.

Can you please explain why you would choose the ER down pipe over the Circuit Werks offering?

I would definitely get an aftermarket charge pipe. Research Treadstone (Miami).

They make a really nice set of pipes for the N20/N26 for a very fair price.
